What do you use to determine that? I believe you but I'm just trying to learn for the future.
definitely a hen
One thing I noticed is SFH's both male & female tend to be more aggressive than my other breeds. My hens are not as aggressive now that they are getting closer to laying age as they were when they were younger, seems to have calmed them a bit. Or as DH said maybe it's just because the roos are so violent that it just makes the hens appear calmer in comparisonI started out with buff orpington's and then moved to some feed store americana chicks. I am not used to a hen having a pronounced comb so when I see that I tend to think "rooster" but I keep trying to remind myself that is not always the case. This crested pullet is aggressive which also threw me off. I kept watching for her to crow to tell me for sure.
I don't know what I would do with myself if I didn't have chickens to worry over! lol
Thanks for all the help. I'm sure I will have a lot more questions in the future.
I should add here that I don't mean aggressive to people, only to each other & the chickens in pens next door to them. With people they are extremely sweet & very inquisitive. They follow me every where, often laying on the deck while I read or taking naps under my swing while I'm in it. Most of them also think my lap is the perfect perchOne thing I noticed is SFH's both male & female tend to be more aggressive than my other breeds. In my little flock of 4 hens, one roo, I had one hen go broody last fall and hatch out 4 chicks for me. I have no idea how often they may do this. I have not heard much about them going broody either. But it does happen! How often do SFH go broody? I have not seen anyone posting about broody SFH...
