Swedish Flower Hen Thread

This guy started out like this:

And turned into this:
He is gorgeous. One of the reasons I bid on your eggs and WON! The question I have for you is do you have problems with aggressive SFH Roos? Just wondering if it is genetic? My husband is familiar with having aggressive roos. He said you have to let them know who is boss early in raising them.

So given the discussion of adolescent roos, what is a good practice for adjusting their manners when they want to start breeding? I have an older layer flock who are quite clannish with respect to new comers (LOL - including two groups that I have added to their number since starting). Also, when do the adolescent roos start to pursue the pullets?

Has any one had issues with sfh chicks being a bit flighty? I only have one about 4wks old and it is bouncing off the walls lol tries to fly everywhere, and squacks a lot :)

Well, since mine are 7 days old and like to play lap races around the brooder with the big SFH in the lead... I would suspect they are very energetic

anywhere from 3-5 months... i think it all depends on the roo. mine, being the low man in the flock, has just started to tentatively approach th girls, but is chased off each time.

k sorry about the dumb question.
City girl living on a farm!
Only had chickens for a little over a year, no experience with roosters.
First time hatching with broodys.

Not sure how to sex chicks. MIne are all over 4 weeks.
When do roosters begin to crow?
Is there any other way to tell male from female?

My SFH are due to hatch in 2 weeks I am soooooo excited, have 12 eggs, going to candle tonight!!!!

Thanks for any assistance.
I have learned so much from reading this thread for such a short time.

I have 2 that are pretty flighty. They're both girls. Every time I open the door to let them out, they start flying around and bouncing off the walls, squalking & chattering at me. If I disturb them when they're laying an egg, they do the same thing.

Anyone have any info on SFH broodiness? I have one that went broody (along with my Black Australorp). She's been sitting for about 1.5 weeks now. Well when my BA got off her eggs yesterday to go eat, my SFH abandoned her eggs and started sitting on the other eggs. Now they are both sitting on 1 nest. Co-Parenting. My BA doesn't look happy about it tho.
