She's been really good. Although I did go out there a little bit ago and one of the babies was bleeding. So I'm not sure what happened, so I put that one back in the bator since it just hatched this morning. I got the brooder ready for some babies. I think I'll call it good with my broody with 7 babies. This is her first time and I haven't gotten the big coop ready yet. it'll be another few months before that happens, I think this might be perfect for her. She's still in with all the rest of the chickens. I didn't have a spot ready for broody's. I don't have a little pen to separate them out to. Luckily it's warm out and most of the chickens stay outside on the roosts. they rarely go inside.

OK... looks like the remaining 5 eggs are quiet, but 7 chicks are doing well.
I took the last 4 out of the bator a few minutes ago... the last one is dry but obviously dried a little sticky, not too bad though.
So... 7 babies... quite happy!

I'm surprised how similar they all look. I'm not sure why but I was expecting differences.
It's going to be fun to watch as these grow.
I will need to reread this thread again to see when colors and sex begin to become apparent.

Am really hoping for a calico... love that color and am so partial to it... would be great to have one that looked like his daddy.

Thanks Bulldogma... will post pics in a few days after everyone fluffs out more and are more stable on their feet.

the typical calico/mille fleur coloration comes from chicks that are golden brown with slightly lighter head/face, and sometimes a lighter belly... Leigh posted a couple pics of that type recently.

NOPE....Can't say no more about it. I am very happy for you. I was looking forward to watching them mature to see the variety of colors.

Mine did great that way. The roosters acted just like daddies and looked after everyone. The hens have kicked those chicks to the curb, but the roosters are caring for the chicks now.

As long as the others don't gang up, she will be fine. Mine pecked the other chickens when they wanted to look at the babies. It was kind of humorous seeing the bantam Cochin hens chasing off the EE roo when he got too close on the first foray into the world they made after hatching their first lot of babies.,

My first ever SFH chick has hatched!!!!!!
Broody is sitting on 12 eggs. I just had to check early this am, as we had terrible storms last night.
Thank goodness it's raining, otherwise I would still be in the coop waiting on babies. I had to get the dogs in before they drowned!!

Huge rainstorms here now. We were having penny size hail come down as well. All my layers either headed inside the coop or went under it. My SFHs, EOs, CLBs, & ameraucanas are inside the shed. Newbies are still in the house. We are supposed to get hammered later this afternoon with even heavier storms & wind.

Huge rainstorms here now. We were having penny size hail come down as well. All my layers either headed inside the coop or went under it. My SFHs, EOs, CLBs, & ameraucanas are inside the shed. Newbies are still in the house. We are supposed to get hammered later this afternoon with even heavier storms & wind.

My thoughts are with you! We are waiting for it here and just hope my birds will be as smart as yours. Though ( should they decide not to go into their coops ) the breeders have a large ceder tree, the juveniles have a lot of branches overhanging their little yard, and the 3 month pullets have a lot of small trees and bushes in their yard. Penny and her 5 new chicks have one of the main coops all to themselves. I just hope we dont loose power...got chicks hatching in the 'bator as I type...
