Well...this is the first time I've brooded without a broody in 2 years. Ordered a heat plate and just got it today (hate lamps for various reasons).

They're just getting used to it and this is how they situated themselves. I had the towel in before with the lamp but not right under it. The were either sleeping on the towel or right next to it. Kiddos and I will have to do some adjusting till we get things just right.

I use a brinsea ecoglo for years and it makes your chicks much better when transitioning them off heat because they are use to sleeping in the dark. Heat lamps make me so nervous with just the fire aspect. They will adjust and love it

The kiddos got the hang of the heat plate within about 3 hours. Went under it last night, no added light, and were out for the night.

I started them with a handful of litter from the chicken house yesterday and a plug of grass to start building immunities too.
