Swedish Flower Hen Thread

The 3 week wait has started for me! The local breeder set sfh eggs yesterday!
Here's hoping that some "blue" and "yellow" chicks hatch

Also have 2 ccl chicks on reserve to join my flowers :) I got the wood to build a permanent brooder so now I need to get started building!

My animals are so confused-- when I feed the chickens, the dogs come running. When I feed the dogs, the hens are all pressed against the screen door hoping they can get a treat too smh

you know it's bad when the chickens can scare the cats away from their food bowl. LOL

Can't wait for my two. I'm attending a chicken swap next Saturday in my area and will be purchasing a blue and a cream (to me she looks cream but she's mostly white with light brown feathers) pullets from Stephanie Lynn. Then maybe another couple pullets and a roo later on. Now to figure out what to do with my silkie roo that came with my two golden laced polish hens that hubby got me for mothers day.

I know this is a bad picture but can anyone tell me if this is a rooster? Its 8 weeks old. I had to seperate it with my crested cream legbar roos because it was picking on some young ee I brought in.

Although the comb looks a little big, coloring and lack of wattles lead me to believe it is a hen.

SFH girls like to set the pecking order.

It came with another swedish flower hen. I asked for hens but at 6 weeks the lady couldnt be sure. The other one is smaller and doesn't stand as tall and has a shorter comb. Both are very aggressive and dont like to be jandled. I was going to get more because they are so beautiful but im bnot liking their personality much

That is probably because they weren't handled much as chicks. Give it time; once they are confident in their pecking order they should settle down.

And BTW - Welcome to the SFH thread and

Please thank your daughter for me for riding with you to take care of the babies! They seem to be doing well and getting adjusted to their new space.

I'll do some photos as soon as I have more time. With babies and an injured bird I've not had much time to do other things :D
