Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I just have to share the irony of this little chick's markings. This is a cross between my blue Isbar cockerel and the white Swedish Flower Hen pullet that was keeping him company during their initial quarantine. The pullet was killed by a raccoon only a few days after she started laying. I have 1 more of her eggs in lockdown now. This little one will be named "Rocky".

Wow!

cute... this is what I found last night when checking on my 'wild broody' Dorking's nest...

also known as

The dorking was safely in the horse trailer with her buddies, the eggs were toast.

ki4got - Sorry about your eggs, but I'm glad your hen is safe. Those opossums are just awful creatures.

saw another one on the way up the driveway tonight, but didn't want to put the car in the ditch trying to hit it.

Hello! I hatched out just one Swedish Flower chick from some shipped eggs. I am in love with this little guy/gal. Can someone with more experience with this breed guess how he/she will be feathered out? There are over 900 pages here and I tried searching for comparison pics... I've seen white, black, reds...was not so easy, lol. Anyway, here's a pic of my baby... at 11 days old. If there is a way of sexing based on coloration (I don't think there is with this breed) please advise. Thanks!

Very cute! Welcome to BYC and the SFH thread! I'm guessing your little one will be a black based mills fleur and either a pullet or a cockerel. That's as close as I can get at this point. :)

Thanks - this little peep is so friendly and inquisitive. I think I am going to need another one, once I know if I've got a boy or girl. For the first two days I carried the little thing around in my sports bra because no one else hatched out. Found him a couple of same aged friends so now they are all together in the brooder :) I guess we bonded, lol.
