Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I swear these boys are eating machines! I know they'll slow down once they know there will be food on a consistent basis but you'd think they were starving! :D

I'm working on rigging a temporary place they can go outside and get on the grass. Photos sometime soon.

@Bulldogma
If you have any of their young photos you can email me with approximate ages, I like to keep comparative photos of each generation so I have something to compare to.

Bulldoma- Thanks for all the advise-The heat lamp is anchored and is not a hot bulb. just enough to keep them from freezing. Her head is not elongated she just has a poof.

I did say "rigging"....

Have an old swingset frame here from when I was a kid!!!!! Yep, I said old.

Had a few kennel panels around waiting to be used elsewhere. Add some plastic netting I also had around. A few clips. And bedsheets just to shield from hawks since I didn't have a top. And.....

Leah,

Sorry for the repeat, I tried to submit from my phone... not user friendly with the mobile app. I love the improvisation with the swing set mobile run! See.. never throw anything out.. one never knows when it will be useful in the future! These boys are both so handsome, I can't wait to see and watch them grow. Love it! Keep us posted with photos!

Of course they are eating machines! They are teenage boys!
I'll see what I can find on the photos.

Fantastic pen! They love being out so I am sure they are quite happy in there! Having access to the outdoors will do a lot to keep their stress level down.

Handsome boys, Leahs Mom!
My last imported German SFH egg didn´t hatch, either. The chick hadn´t absorbed the yolk sack yet, but otherwise it was fully developed. Bummer.
I´d still like to get a second gene source for my birds, and no one around here has them yet. We´re starting to plan our vacation for the Spring, and Sweden is one option. If we went, I´d probably try to take some hatching eggs back home with me (that´s obsessed for you!, now my birds are even influencing my vacation plans!). I´ve read on BYC about some people taking eggs with them on the airplane, and it worked out. Since I´m travelling within the EU, I think it might work. Anyone out there (Bulldogma maybe?) know of a good SFH breeder at the source?
Otherwise, after my disappointment I´m trying to resist the temptation to hatch some of my own eggs. My girls are still going strong with their laying. It´s starting to get really cold outside, though, and I don´t have heating in the coop. I´d have to keep the chicks inside for a very long time. I really could use I few more females, though. Maybe just a couple... Somebody please talk me out of it...

Hi! I just signed up but I've been following this thread for a while. My first group of SFHs hatched the week of July 4 from Leigh's eggs and they are flowering up beautifully! Love this breed.
