Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Handsome boys, Leahs Mom!
My last imported German SFH egg didn´t hatch, either. The chick hadn´t absorbed the yolk sack yet, but otherwise it was fully developed. Bummer.
I´d still like to get a second gene source for my birds, and no one around here has them yet. We´re starting to plan our vacation for the Spring, and Sweden is one option. If we went, I´d probably try to take some hatching eggs back home with me (that´s obsessed for you!, now my birds are even influencing my vacation plans!). I´ve read on BYC about some people taking eggs with them on the airplane, and it worked out. Since I´m travelling within the EU, I think it might work. Anyone out there (Bulldogma maybe?) know of a good SFH breeder at the source?
Otherwise, after my disappointment I´m trying to resist the temptation to hatch some of my own eggs. My girls are still going strong with their laying. It´s starting to get really cold outside, though, and I don´t have heating in the coop. I´d have to keep the chicks inside for a very long time. I really could use I few more females, though. Maybe just a couple... Somebody please talk me out of it...
You're looking in the wrong place for support NOT to hatch!

Hi! I just signed up but I've been following this thread for a while. My first group of SFHs hatched the week of July 4 from Leigh's eggs and they are flowering up beautifully! Love this breed.
Welcome!!! How many little ones did you hatch? Bulldogma's eggs are DA BOMB, the are SICK....which my sons taught me mean... great! Go figure that one out.....

Hello everyone, I'm Ron from Texas and I just hatched my first SFH. Actually my first chicken ever. It hatched last night at 10pm and it is cute as can be. Out of 14 eggs, it was the only one that hatched so I scrambled to find it a buddy. The only day old chicks I could find was an Olive Egger, but we took the drive and the nice lady just gave it to us. Just wanted to introduce myself as I'm sure I'll be lurking around.

Great meeting you today. IF you want any more OE's just let me know! lol Hatching is addictive but can also be so stressful and disappointing but no matter what, we keep doing it! lol Send me pics of them both when they start getting some feathers and I will let you know when I have some SF chicks available. At least you won't have to deal with shipped eggs next time! :)

Now they're starting the classic pacing back and forth in front of the doorway. THEY ARE SWEDES AND THEY WANT OUT TO RUN THE RANGE! RIGHT NOW, DARN IT!

They also recognize the sound of the jar lid on the mealworm jar already

Love it!

I did say "rigging"....

Have an old swingset frame here from when I was a kid!!!!! Yep, I said old.

Had a few kennel panels around waiting to be used elsewhere. Add some plastic netting I also had around. A few clips. And bedsheets just to shield from hawks since I didn't have a top. And.....

Great "rigging"!

I'm sooo tempted to start a hatch right now...the ONLY reason I'm holding back is the possibility of getting some SFH chicks in the next month or so...must leave brooder space...

That chick is a bully. Keeps grabbing the SF by the feet and flipping it over. LOL
