Here's my little pullet, Trixie. She laid her first egg today! It was a pretty decent size for a first egg. The only thing was, it was streaked with blood on the outside of the shell. I haven't had this happen before, so hopefully she's ok.

How old is your pullet? She's a pretty girl. I have had one or 2 of my birds have the blood streaking when they first started laying. As long as she isn't acting "off" or you can't see any signs of problems, I'm thinking that she is okay.

She's 6 mos old. I love the look of the crested, but what I didn't know when I got her with her crested roo, was that I shouldn't breed crested to crested. I also have two 5 mos old pullets that are NOT crested, so somehow I'll have to sort the eggs.

Ha! Who doesn't like lots of pictures - especially of gorgeous chickens!?! Thanks for the family history on Astrid; it's so interesting to see how genes mix and pass down, isn't it? And she is SO sweet, too, and loves being held. Thanks for these wonderful chickens, Leigh!
You are very welcome!!

Many of my first-time layers leave blood streaks on their first couple eggs, and some will leave streaks on eggs when they start laying again after going broody.

[/URL]Here are some more pictures of the boys and girls, with the first one being the guy I think is a snow leopard, but not sure!

Sure looks like you might have a snoleopard there! What a lovely flock of chickens you ended up with! Look at all those colors!

I just wanted to show a fun pic of my chicky. Sorry if I concerned people, need not worry lamp and head crests were not hot. All we should see is a healthy happy pullet.( That is what I hoped everyone would see.)

I'm from North Carolina but we moved to Eastern Kentucky last year for my husband's job. He's from Indiana so Kentucky is middle ground between both families! And Bukrub66, your baby's adorable!
