Here's my little pullet, Trixie. She laid her first egg today! It was a pretty decent size for a first egg. The only thing was, it was streaked with blood on the outside of the shell. I haven't had this happen before, so hopefully she's ok.

How old is your pullet? She's a pretty girl. I have had one or 2 of my birds have the blood streaking when they first started laying. As long as she isn't acting "off" or you can't see any signs of problems, I'm thinking that she is okay.
Quote: yup btdt... with the heat and a crested sfh. who is now partially trimmed due to singed crest feathers. LOL
You are very welcome!!Ha! Who doesn't like lots of pictures - especially of gorgeous chickens!?! Thanks for the family history on Astrid; it's so interesting to see how genes mix and pass down, isn't it? And she is SO sweet, too, and loves being held. Thanks for these wonderful chickens, Leigh!
Many of my first-time layers leave blood streaks on their first couple eggs, and some will leave streaks on eggs when they start laying again after going broody. Here's my little pullet, Trixie.
