Swedish Flower Hen Thread

And about this boy, is he blue based or splash based? I was certain splash but now Im not so sure!

What about this girl?
I´ve only had SFH since April, but all the "Splash" I´ve seen have had a lot more white, so I would say the roo is blue-based. I think the pullet is splash, but to be honest, it´s a good question; I´m curious what the more experienced will say.
Melabella- your chicks are adorable. I´m hoping I´ll get some, too. I´m at the halfway point now, and still have 8 in the bator (had 2 early quitters). Hoping a few will hatch...

As a young girl, and still, I study horse conformation and live learning all the different breeds. With my new chicken obsession, this seemed like a logical early birthday present! Yippie!

You don't use any water????? at all?
No I found with my incubator the humidity would be ALL over the place which I contribute to my completely botched first attempt I also found the less i mess with them the better the results so that's what works for me so I'm going to stick with it lol

Here's my EE/SFH. A lady in Oklahoma has been breeding them. Some look more SFH than others.

Yea!!!! Thank you I just knew someone had to have some!!! Beautiful birds!!!!

Just ate my first sfh meal today from an extra roo. Chalk up another point for this breed- it was good! I've had Brahma and Barred Rock, but they had a funny taste to them. This sfh tasted like store-bought.

Congrats and early happy birthday!
I'm SOOOOO jealous! I really would love to have one of these to help me with the breed illustrations!
I'm saving up...

@Bulldogma

I don't have a recent photo - maybe tomorrow - but you should see the big boy! He has gotten a LOT more black in the chest and is getting very dark in coloration.

I still have them in the garage but would have put them out in the "see no touch" kennel today except for the fact that it was raining, then snowing, with 40 - 45 mph winds. Hoping to have the barn ready this weekend and then they can go right out there with everyone else.

They are still funny to watch their "little boy antics" and I "think" I might have heard a crow yesterday but I was in the house and couldn't confirm it. I went out and listened for awhile but not a peep. Maybe I just imagined it.

Awww - you're so kind to say that!!

I love my Swedish Flowers! So pretty and so many different colors. Mine are docile and friendly, but I find if they are not socialized they can be a little flighty. Right now, I have 4 cockerels and 5 hens. They all live together and get along just fine. However, this is not a good ratio! I hope it's ok if I leave a note here to say I am selling 3 of the cockerels. We are a NPIP/AI Clean small farm - WA, in the greater Seattle, WA area and the birds must be picked up or there is a possibility we could meet somewhere. If necessary, I could make a pair. The girls started laying at the end of August and were steady until mid-October when they took the older hens lead and started molting. I will be putting this info on the For Sale forum in the morning. They come from Greenfire Farm. They are second generation from Berrytangle Farm and just beautiful. Thank you!
