Swedish Flower Hen Thread

@Ashdoes

This little girl was a crest to crest quite by mistake. (I thought I had pulled one of the other girl's eggs and mistakenly got her mamma's egg.)

She did not have a vaulted skull, but the crest was excessive. I also suspect that her mamma was crest to crest due to the large crest she also had.

I finally gave her a haircut so she could see overhead.

I decided that I don't want any crested birds at all. My birds free-range and they MUST be able to
take care of themselves. This girl's mother was the ONLY BIRD I ever lost to a hawk. She also had a hawk attack and I decided not to keep her because of the stress around here and her personality. I gave her to a young lady that keeps chickens as pets and loves them each individually and she is thriving in her care .

Here is a photo from October after that crest re-grew.... Ridiculous!

Anyhow, for me I don't want crested after my experience with these girls. Love my non-crested kiddos!

Wanted to share some current photos of the Swedes. Now I just need to get a not-too-closely-related boy :D

The younger kiddos @ 40 weeks. I got the young 3 as baby chicks from @KYTinpusher

This girl still isn't showing a lot of flowers.

I call this girl Sally (as in "Sally Sunshine"). She is the first to do everything...always the most curious and quite an enjoyable personality. She does not have any tan...only black with white flowering. Sally likes to stand on the water bucket.

I call this girl "Shay". She has tan on the neck. (FYI - the girl in the background is a BA/SFH mix... same daddy as the huge crested girl above. She's a spunky little thing and has a more reasonable crest.)

This girl (Emma) is 2 yo. I believe she is one of @BHep 's girls from a breeder in IN that hatched for me.

Hmmm, the Creams with the biggest crest don't have that width above their eyes. Good to know though, because I free range at least 80% of the time, and we also have hawks. Thank you for the pictures.

My eBay eggs have arrived! They were expertly wrapped, and she put hem in the box air cell up. We unpacked them and candled and all but one air cell was perfect, and even the wonky one wasn't detached all the way. She even sent 3 surprise eggs, which I marked, but she also sells Frizzles so I'm guessing that's what they are...and my daughters would just love that. I'm very happy with this seller so far.
With online eggs, it seems like the hardest part is waiting to see what comes in the mail. Of course, the really hard part is hatching...I have no patience.
