Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I bought this guy last night. Beautiful!

crested flower hen? That's what it's supposed to be. Just want to make sure.

She looks like a double crested SFH to me. I believe if you breed her to your non-crested roo you will get 100% crested chicks. I could be wrong about that so someone correct me if I am. Have you felt her head to see if she has a vaulted skull?

She looks like a crested splash girl. This might be a perfect example of crested-to-crested breeding which is a no-no. When this happens, the resulting offspring can have a super poofy crest that hampers their ability to free range or see. And, yes, it can create a vaulted skull that leaves them open to possible brain damage if they were pecked or injured in the head.

She is a pretty color and looks like a SFH to me.

Thanks for the info. She's only a few months old so I will have to wait a little to breed her. I will check and see if I can tell about the vaulted skull tomorrow

Hi, hoping some one you SFH veterans might be able to tell me if this is normal. Below are picks of my 9-10 wk cockerel. He had not started growing any tail feathers and his under coat is really fluffy almost like a silkie. Below that a some picks of my pullets (7-9 wks). The pullets are also really fluffy but they have more defined tails and less fluff at their rear end.

Here are the pullets:

I have not had that issue in mine before. My cockerels all have normal tails at that age. What protein is his feed? Maybe tail picking?

They're on 20% grower + greens from the garden + free range time when the adults are cooped up. He's been that way since I got them at 4 and 6 weeks. He's the biggest chick in that pen and is at the top of the pecking order.

All the feathers are there, but they are are all downy, like the barbs aren't holding the feather together. And they are long even for down that grows around the vent. As you can see, his wings are just fine. Well, at least the girls are normal.

His head is kind of weird too. He wouldn't stop eating to the whole time I was taking pictues. The feathers on his head are spikey, but not like chickens with crests. Just spikey like he's wearing hair gel. I'll need to post a pick when he's not eating.

strange. Here are some cockerels at 9 weeks old. Pics taken last week. I've never had that happen with mine.

did you get him from a reliable source? Those pullets look great, but to me that Cockrell seems off. The feathering, color, and legs look wrong. He reminds me of how my orphington boys feather in.
