I agree, it is an attractive notion. That's why I don't really trust the memory fully; I was 10 years old, it was 30 years ago and I don't have perfect recall. Maybe it is just wishful thinking. Thought I'd ask though. Regardless, I do have a strong desire to raise some of the 'scandanavian' lines, and am working toward that. I'm on my first flock for now (hatchery BO, BR), and with time hope to get to a point where I can help to maintain and perpetuate a breed like blommehons.

They probably weren't SFH's as I don't think most people immigrated bringing their chickens. BUT... they were probably were drawn to chickens that reminded them of home and chose ones with similar traits.

I'm really enjoying these birds because of their friendliness. When I let the little ones out of their pen they just hang around my feet, let me reach down and pick them up, and come to me. It's very cool.

Great pictures everyone! How many roosters is everyone planning on keeping? I've got one cockerel, not quite 6 wks old, that started crowing this morning. He beats the other one that started at 7 1/2 weeks.

Any news jeremy?

As far as I can tell, I've got 3 reddish ones that I'm guessing will be brown, 7 black and yellowish white, 2 that look like they might be grey, and one that's black white and red. I haven't figured out how to post pictures yet. A few of the chicks seem more assertive then the rest- I'm guessing they are roos.

It's crazy how early you can distinguish the cockerels from the pullets. Some it's on day one!

BHep, how old are yours in the pics? Nice variety!

ladyfaeden, Congratulations on your new chickies!! I'd love to see a pic of the one that's black, white and red. I haven't seen a chick colored like that from hatch.
It's so hard to know how they'll feather out, which makes it so much fun every single day, because change almost daily.

No pips.

No peeps.

Just 1 crazy man pacing around the house, checking the incubator every half hour.
