Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I love the look of your dark one. I have a red and white, a white and a gold head with gray body. And I'm getting hatching eggs!!! Whee!!!
From KYTinpusher.
I've got a friend who will let me borrow the incubator he has. I'm pretty excited.

Oh, is that all? That is very disappointing as I love the look of this breed and Greenfire's description of their personality, but with eight people in the house sharing eggs and only eight hens allowed by local ordinance, I need top-notch layers ONLY, unfortunately. Too bad Exchequer seems to be the only heritage variety of Leghorn that is easy to come by around here. I have two and love them but want more variety.
:hit
I know someone with Mille Fleur Leghorns. Why not mix them up for variety of color. The brown leghorns are really pretty too. You won't get the friendliness of the SFH, but you'll get a ton of eggs!

Well my boys that are just 5 months are mature enough to fertilize the eggs I baked some zucchini bread yesterday and the eggs had the little white circle on the yolk. Shoot wish I had known before placing them in the fridge because now my girls are starting to molt and have stopped laying, now I have to wait until the spring for chicks.

Try hatching them anyway. Folks have hatched fertile eggs from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's and Amish markets. I have 5 chickens I hatched from eggs laid who knows when that were picked up, put in the fridge and held there for a few days! I got 5 out of the dozen, and I kind of wonder if a couple I tossed as no good were actually OK just further along.

Olympia, but I am wondering if this should be Olympus, as I saw it sparring with another chick this morning.

I love how all three have splashes of white. Can't wait to see how they feather out (and how many boys I have, le sigh).

I have a dozen in the bator going to lockdown Sunday afternoon.

Hi everyone! I have been reading this thread for the last few days while waiting on my SFH eggs in the bator. Today is day 21 and I have my first pip...so exciting!!!! I have 5 in lockdown including the one pip. 5/23 only 8 had any development and only 5 made it to lockdown. This is my first full incubator pip and first shipped egg pip! They were an ebay impulse buy when I saw how beautiful they are.
