re: white/splash girl, it'd help to see a pic of jer, whole birds, both sides? like most 'pied' coloration, it;'s possible to have a bird nearly white to nearly solid-colored with vedry little white. it may not be splash at all, but a splash-pied variety would probably be mostly white/pale grey too.

Cynthia12 - Gunner seems to be primarily black-based. Here are some shots as he grew:

No way! I have some pictures of my baby, what do you think..similar in coloring while yours was a baby? Oh man, I would love for this little one to color out like Gunner. Man, they really do make a huge change at times don't they? Here are a few pics of the baby from a few different angles. One angle shows the feathering..thinking, a girl..so maybe less color when older? I need it to be a girl.


Here is the picture of the wing feathers...






I can't wait for this one to get older..I have one that has mostly a blue body, but has
a couple of yellow spots above each eye. I can see that one changing big time too.
Thanks for posting those baby pictures, I'm so excited to see this one grown up now!

Wow! So pretty and they're really growing fast! The blue pullet in my avatar is turning out much the same. I really like the blue Flowers. I can't wait to see them fully grown. I love to watch them change day by day.

My blues tend to be very friendly but independent. The brown/reds are the most curious and the yellow based took the longest to warm up. The black based chicks are more mellow. Has anyone noticed any trends in temperament by color?

I am working on a project with my 9-year-old daughter to create our own coffee table-style book about the Swedish Flower Hen breed, history, traits and we need ALL the good, high resolution photos we can get of these beautiful birds!

If you have some good photos and would allow us to use them (and YES - the book will be available to anyone who wants one on Amazon.com) please email full-size photos to: [email protected] with a note saying that you give me (Leigh Edwards) permission to use your photo. Any other photo details are welcome (name & age of the bird(s) and what ever else you would like to include).

FULL credit will be given under each photo I use - so be sure to include your name and your farm name if you like.

You must have either taken the photo yourself or have permission to use the photo in any way you see fit in order for me to legally be able to use your photo in a print book.

Also - any informational blurbs about Swedish Flower Hens you think would be interesting or useful are welcome - again with full credit given to each source.

This may take me a while, but once done I can make it available through Amazon.com so anyone can have access to it. (It would be fun to sell your eggs/chicks and reference their parent(s) on page?? in this book

to buyers.)

At this point I'm well underway on the writing part, but keep in mind I can't make any promises about this book just yet - because as the mother of 2 special needs kids I never know when *life* will trip me up.

As far as credentials, I am a professional writer (published) and currently working as an at-home mom and crazy chicken lady. PM or email me if you have any questions - I'll be happy to answer them.

WOW! even tho i'm only an SFH foster momma, i might just need one of those. if i ever finish the house enough to have a coffee table that is.

ki4got - I would say "yes" but add that you may want to get permission to photograph other people's chickens. Just don't want anyone coming back and saying we're using images of their property without consent... there can be a number of funny legalities tied up with print media.

Does anyone show SFHs yet? That would be really cool - I'd get in on that too if the opportunity ever presented itself. I'd love to show off my babies

I've been a lurker, here, too, on and off... Hi Cynthia12=)

Haven't looked for a little while, didn't realize there were blue SFH's?? How do you get that color? I just love blue feathering... Same as other feathering probably?... Cross a black based with a white based and you get blue?

Seeing the pics again is making me think twice about the project I'm working on... blue and black copper marans and wheaten/blue wheaten ameracaunas... I may end up combining those pens for OE's and EE's so I can have an SFH pen=) we'll see, but then again, maybe I'll just get some chicks and be happy with a few pretty pullets... Cynthia, don't tempt me with yours, I just can't have any chicks right now, even though it's KILLING me to say it!!

well hatch day is today for my 10 in lockdown. 5 were moving during lockdown 5 looked like quitters. So far no pips, no rolling, nothing. I really hope i get a few.
