Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I had two out of my three eggs in lock down hatch. The one that didn't make it..had two yolks. Interesting it made it as far along as it did.

I'm happy with the two I have..if they are girls. :) One is the black and yellow you see a lot of, but one had blue down the back, with whitish sides. Will be interesting. I'm hoping the black and yellow means..orange and black down the road.

Woohoo! Congrats on the 2 little ones!

I will post pictures tomorrow. I think you may be right, should know in a few days when some color should start coming into the wings..that would be great!
That's what just happened with a bantam faverolle I just hatched. It was all yellow. I assumed I had a pure white favorelle. I had different colors other than the norm. salmon color..it now has a lot of blue/grey in the wings..going to be very pretty!

Ooooo... can't wait to see some pictures!!

Just a reminder -

I'm in the midst of working on a book about our beautiful Swedish Flower Hens and I need as many high-resolution, clear photos as I can get my hands on! Photos can be emailed to [email protected] along with the name of the photographer (so I can give everyone credit for their photos) and a brief statement saying you give me permission to use your photo.

Also, feel free to include any information, anecdotes or opinions you have on this breed that others might find interesting. Info on these birds is sorely limited so I'd love to put in some fun and interesting tidbits.

I have seen some beautiful photos posted by a lot of folks in this thread, and I'm sincerely hoping you'll let me use some of them!

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaase!

wish i could help... but if you ever decide to do a mille fleur cochin book, you know where to find some. 8) or dorkings, but they're all ratty looking right now.

I'm getting my first pair of swedish flower hens tomarrow. The hen is laying how do I get her to keep laying for me after I get her. I also have a trio of brown leghorns that when I first got them they layed me a couple of eggs and then quite. I didn't have a nest box in the pen will this stop them from laying. I have put one in today do you think that might encourage them to nest in them. I just wish I knew why they quit and I want to hatch babies from my flower hens asap. So any ideas on it.

I don't know if I have any that are book worthy, but you are welcome to go through the albums on my profile page and let me know if you would like copies of any of them. I think the SFH are in the SFH, Default, and Upload albums.

Bringing them to a new home can make them stop laying for awhile until they feel comfortable again. Give them a nice nest to lay in and maybe put a couple of golf balls or fake eggs in the nest to encourage them. Most hens like to lay in a nest with eggs already in it. Then just be patient.

Thank you I will give it a try.

in my experience, moving a hen from one home to another will interrupt her laying cycle a bit until she gets to know where she is and who her friends are...
