She is BEAUTIFUL!

and so is the rooster in your avatar.

Can I play too?

I ordered half a dozen Breda chicks from Greenfire but only five hatched in time for my ship date. Jenny offered to add some SFH to make up the difference and I figured what the heck, I can always use more layers. Wow, what a surprise! These little birds really do come in some wild colors and patterns.

I have four little ones with very interesting markings. Any guesses as to what they might mature as?

I think this one might be a male. Color is blue with a cocoa colored mask. Maybe I'll name 'him' Zorro unless I can find out the Swedish word for bandit.

The dark redhead

and the light redhead

and last, but not least, the black chick with the dark red face mask and head spot.

Here is a picture of the whole gang....Breda and SFH.

Grimla - that is a beautiful hen! I believe you are going to be very popular on this thread! In fact, I am working on a book about Swedish Flower Hens and I sure use your insight because much of the information that is available on Swedish Flower Hens is in Swedish. I have been using a free internet translator, but I could really use the help of someone who is actually from Sweden an may have more information on these beautiful birds!

I love your black and white hen. I have not seem one like her before.

Your chicks are adorable! A guess as to adult color would only be that, and very general. It's hard to tell how much white or how many other colors will start coming in until they start to feather out. If you go back to page 228, I posted pictures of mine as chicks and as fully-feathered young adult birds. I have one that started out black one with a yellow mask, but now she is the most beautiful mix of black, dark mahogany red and white. The one that started out blue on top with a yellow mask and underside is now mostly blue with lacing. These are the most beautiful birds (my humble opinion) and part of their beauty is their individual uniqueness. I can tell from across the field which chicken is which. Not all chicken-keepers can say that :)

I have many progressive pics like this in my albums on my profile page that might give you a clue. They are in the Uploads and Swedish Flower Hens albums. I guess I need to update them with adult pics, though.

Here are my 4 that hatched, starting with the first one out.

Every color under the rainbow.
