Sorry, but my guess is you have 2 roos there. The crested roos are sneaky and develop slower than the non-crested. The wattles on my pullets were almost non-existent until they were reaching POL. How old are they? They are gorgeous, though!

I was actually wondering if it was a boy when you posted this picture. Color wise it looks like a boy to me. The dark red wings had me wondering. I've only seen that on boys of any breed. I vote ... boy...

Frida

I'm getting a little nervous. I had been quite sure my crested girl, Frida, was... well... a girl! She went from my weakest chick to head of the flock. Now she's been sparring with Gunnar, my for-sure cockerel. Since she's crested, her comb is different from those of my non-crested birds and I don't have another crested pullet to compare to.

Pullets will spar with 'da boys... right?? Oh PLEASE let Frida continue being Frida and not *gasp* Frederic."

Sparring teens:



Gunnar's wattles are bigger, but Frida's are a little larger than those of the other pullets.
Opinions?

I heard no two birds look alike! Just like Zebras! Gourgous birds. I would LOVE some if they weren't so darn expensive. Kinda look like the beautiful Speckled Sussex

I have 7 swedish flower hens eggs that went into lockdown last night. Any last minute advice for hatching? They were very active last night. Hatch date of this Saturday is expected.

well, wait until spring and see what happens... i'm willing to 'foster' a pair, if you can possibly help with a coop for them. 8) i really like the crested ones personally.

You're the awesomest! Our issue is that we love both Frida (Frederic?) and Gunnar. They both have such amazing personalities, not to mention they're both as beautiful as can be... but if Frida starts to crow, we'll see what happens.

Thanks everybody! Sparrow is doing a great job despite the chilly temps (for Alabama). Does anyone have any tips on integrating them into the flock? I've got them locked up in a small henhouse by themselves right now. At what age/size should I let her take them out into the fenced side yard? It really surprised me when I took them a boiled egg and carrot treat yesterday that the peeps are every bit as friendly as ones I hatched last spring even though mom is raising them.

We always integrate ours in at night while everyone is resting. In the morning all is back to normal and the big chickens don't even think anything has changed.
