Can I use Sweet PDZ Stall Refresher for raising baby chicks? Like can I use it in the chick brooder?
It says the form is Mineral Granules. So I don't know if its too fine or not. Any help is really appreciated!!

I personally would not use it. Yes, it is safe for chickens, but I would be afraid the chicks would eat it. I use puppy pads for the first few weeks, then switch to large flake pine shavings. 😊

I wouldn't. They will likely obsess with eating it.
It's best to just change bedding more frequently.
I've heard it 100% safe for them to ingest. I'm not worried about them eating it, just worried about dust. Thanks Though!!

I will be using puppy pads for about a week or two, then trying to use that. Just worried about dust.

It's one thing to be safe if ingested in small quantities in an adult bird but not when it's a tiny chick with a more fragile GI system and the potential to ingest a lot. I would simply avoid using it until they were larger. Maybe 6 - 8 weeks old.

I've used it in the brooder, but cover it with paper towels for the first few days and use a tote lid as a feed station.
Haven't had a problem with them overeating the granules, tho it could be a problem, but then I usually move them out to the coop(pine shaving bedding) by two weeks old.

Thank you for the reply. Once again, I am in no way concerned about them eating it. I was just worried if it was too fine for them since it said its for was mineral granules.

The concern with them eating it is those first few days they're just learning to eat, period, and they may become confused and think the PDZ is actually food, and overeat it. You want them eating as much chick starter as possible out the gate. It's not that it's toxic, it's that they could starve themselves if they don't learn to eat their feed well.

The granules aren't that dusty, so they would be fine once the chicks understand what is good to eat. It's like a large particle sand, in size.
