Sweet PDZ vs Zeolite

I would think the ingredient zeolite in Sweet PDZ is what combats the smell by its absorption properties. The fragrance really is not what does it. The absorption is the neutralizer. Also, you want the granular, not the powder.

DE, on the other hand, is a product I stay away from. @trumpeting_angel is correct when she says DE is very controversial. It is also very dangerous, IMHO.

Well Ted if you find something that is available here let me know. I've found this https://www.absorbentproductsltd.com/fresh-coop-chicken/ locally but only in the smaller container. It is diatomaceous earth not zeolite. May still work perfectly well but not at $10 a bag - as usual - sigh.
I don't think this stuff or DE alone will absorb/neutralize ammonia...tho they may absorb moisture.

So, since the store hid the Horse Fresh and it’s a half hour drive to go back there, I did buy the smaller bag of coop refresher. I have 4 chicks and they have a lot of space, so no significant problems with smell. I still have more than half the bag. So if you have to buy the coop stuff once while you search for PDZ in bulk, it’s not that bad of a budget-buster. A small amount works wonders.

ETA: They’re about 7 weeks now.

Well, yeah, I guess I should have added this to my last post. You still do have to remove the source of the smell, the poop. What little PDZ I sprinkle on the droppings board does absorb the moisture for sure, which in turn mostly eliminates any left over smell.

I will say when I scrape the DB in the mornings that a lot of the poop that was dropped overnight has dried up quite a bit.

My main concern is spreading it across the DB to “contain” the odor of any smears, as I don’t wipe it down. It just gets a really good scrape.

Yes it does.

My coop floor is construction sand; however, there is nothing on my DB except the scattering of approximately 1/3 to 3/4 cup of PDZ, just depends on the mess each morning. It also dries up the moisture from an egg dropped on the DB at night. Unfortunately I have three girls that have this problem.

I am still looking but came across this @ $31.11 plus shipping for 25 pounds:

https://www.amazon.ca/Pure-Nature-P...ords=zeolite&qid=1559992814&s=gateway&sr=8-15

And even better for folks near Calgary $14.95 for 10kg!

Yes, Garden Retreat is a place I know well and this is the cheapest I have found, this is what I use for my garden. I'm not sure where you may be seeing that PDZ may also include some sort of fragrance - I can't find that info anywhere.

These two are US made and the Turf and Kennel is a pretty good price. The very first link you found is made in China, not my favourite Country of Origin for products if possible. Apparently Canada also mines very high quality zeolite in BC.

Wonders how big are those granules...they couldn't stick a measure in the pic?
Am going to do that with the PDZ here pretty quick,
after my egg customer arrives and leaves.

@MiaS I was trying for price not CofO and I sympathize with that sentiment.

I called a large Ottawa based feed and seed store (Ritchie's). They have Azomite @ $66/40 lbs. It is sold as a soil amendment but is natural volcanic zeolite mined in Utah. I know that Zeolite Canada has their mines in BC but I have not found any products produced by them or their distribution partners as yet.

Ricthie's sells "Barn Fresh" as an odor control for $19/40lbs but that is not zeolite based "chicken coop odor neutralizer combines natural Food Chemical Codex Grade Diatomaceous Earth with Calcium Montmorillonite".

https://www.absorbentproductsltd.com/fresh-coop-odor-control/

I will try to track down where I read that Sweet PDZ is zeolite combined with a fragrant.

Good luck!

Not sure about what you are referring to - my first link above is Turf and Kennel which states it is "Organic & all-natural; processed and produced in the USA" (but you already know that as you stated).
