Sweet PDZ vs Zeolite

I have done a bit of research on this (also live in Canada). Sweet PDZ is zeolite with a fragrance added. Straight zeolite will work to absorb the liquids but smells may be stronger than the PDZ. I am investigating what is used for horse stalls since I guess that it will also have a fragrance added.

@aart will no doubt comment on this.

I believe that Sweet PDZ is nothing but zeolite...
...not sure about different mining/processing of the mineral for gardening vs livestock bedding.
IIRC both in CAN and the UK zeolite was obtained thru gardening arenas.

Well Ted if you find something that is available here let me know. I've found this https://www.absorbentproductsltd.com/fresh-coop-chicken/ locally but only in the smaller container. It is diatomaceous earth not zeolite. May still work perfectly well but not at $10 a bag - as usual - sigh.

DE is somewhat controversial. Many swear by it. Before I had chickens I bought some to control the ants. Theoretically, the bugs’ bodies are damaged by the sharp edges of the DE and that kills them. The ants never slowed down.

The word is that the dust from DE is bad for chickens’ respiratory systems. I haven’t seen any research ... I don’t bother with it since it was ineffective for us.

Have no idea if it would help with the smell.

That is where my concern lies, though people do eat this stuff (people will take anything if they think there is benefit - oh boy). It is marketed as coop deodorizer so I'm assuming it must be okay but again likely at a premo price point!
