I must not understand what you mean by illegals. The thousands of people who cross the border daily aren't illegals. They are legally able to work and there are thousands more Americans crossing into Mexico and back daily, too. Our problem with 'illegals' are residents who live here and work here alongside Americans, and they don't go back and forth (because it's not as easy for them!) but tend to live here permanently- illegally. Kansas is full of them!

I don't understand how the illegals being 'controlled' even indicates anything about border control, since most of them are here already.

That's what confused me about that statement.

The travelers- those going in and out- they are the ones who ought to be observed and potentially treated, recorded, etc... IMHO, but I really feel like the flu has an incubation period that renders no symptoms while you can get others sick, so how the heck would we know, anyway??

While I agree with you on controlling the border, I do not think it is the answer or the problem in this case. There are cases showing up all over the world, and whether is is one case or a million you can not get it without close contact. The media is hyping this for all they can, it is good that there is notification. But GWB was blamed for a flu outbreak a few years back and it was silly, let's not make the same mistake and looking like we want to use this hardship for political gain.

What the media and government should be doing is putting out the information on how to stay healthy and avoid getting the flu. Closing borders would just give a false sense of safety. The flu would still get here, education and personal responsibility are the answer. A true conservative does not look to government to solve problems, we roll up our sleeves and do it ourselves.

Pushed hard enough on this issue I think we could possibly see an excuse for troops and liberties being infringed on using the flu for an excuse. There have been many statements from different public officials that would indicate it will not take much. I certainly do not want to see this country in a turmoil over just the flu.

We know thousands cross the border illegal every day to work also , they may stay a few months, but lots return, also.

I heard today that this flu has nothing to do with swine at all. It is a human/avian type of flu? Has anyone else heard this?

Some are trying to rename it: the "Mexico Flu," the "North American Flu," etc. because the U.S. pork industry in unnecessarily being hurt by the misnomer....

This is alot like the guy, who just can miss a day of work and bring his sick a** to work, giving the bug to others.

Lot of good point on how to stop the spread of the swine flu.

Myself I just went thru chemo, made me see how many people dont care who they spread their germs to.

I now know to try my best to stay away from sick people. But lots of airborne disease out there also.
