Exactly why we need to be concerned and take precautions.

... and I'm going to Church tomorrow with a bunch of Mexicans... I hope they haven't been there lately.

... makes me want to ask any of my patients next week, "Have you been in NY, KS, TX or MX in the past two weeks"... and if they have, reappoint them for another time.

Since you're a dentist you should have plenty of those face mask's. You might actually see those in church. If you're Catholic I would take a pass on the wine though. Last time I went to church in 1988 they were letting everyone drink from the same goblet.

Is the flu more infectious in Mexicans?

not any more infectious with them... apparently it's where it originated, shortly after Obama had visited Mexico.

Things that make ya go, hmmm?!

ETA: not catholic, not that there's anything wrong with that, but I go to Church with Hispanics every Thursday and now every Sunday.

That may be similar to the death rate in a "normal" influenza outbreak in Mexico.
The regular old "flu" is deadly too - has been forever.

Normal flu is deadly, but mostly to the extremely young and old. The reports are that this is a new strain which has managed to combine genetic sequences from swine, avian, and human flu - and it's killing healthy individuals in their 20's to 40's, which is how the 1918 pandemic began.

Hopefully, this will fizzle, but the CDC now believes that it's already too widespread to contain locally and the World Health Organization is about to declare a World Health Event of International Concern.

Exactly, as I said before that is why they are so concerned but so far it's been a generally mild disease in most people.

Mass hysteria is not called for. One of the scary things about 'flu is that it is a species jumper. Only one type of 'flu virus infects only humans, the B-strain. A-strain viruses are found in other animals, including birds and swine. One of the reasons most of the bad strains come out of Asia because the three species live in very close proximity.

Y'all gonna get rid of your chickens because the might be carriers of bird 'flu capable of passing it on to you?

California, two cases in Texas and cases around Mexico City do not by any definition constitute a pandemic.

No hysteria here, and as for the POTUS's trip, Sorry, yeah, I knew that, I was trying to make a bad funny. Apologies to all. I figure if folks can blame Bush for "making" Katrina.... (they actually did you know)....

Everyone dies sooner or later. Could be the flu.. Could be a brick landing on your head out of nowhere. Why worry so much, is my question.

Enjoy what little time you have..

Well, you are well aware of who is in charge at Homeland Security. She is too busy making sure us old veterans don't get antsy. We are dangerous you know.

Influenza just might move in the air. My mother said that during the 1917 pandemic, they holded up at the ranch miles from anyone, and they still caught it.

Things to think about, those bars on the city bus, wash your hands as soon as you get off the bus. Everyone touches those hand rails.

When eating out, ask for a straw, don't put your lips on the glass. If the dish washer can't get somebodies lip stick off the glass how can it get a virus off of it.

Order something that you can eat without using the silverware. A burger and fries or something like that.

Family in Mexico have not seen any flu yet, but they live way out in the sticks.
