I KNOW he is talking about illegals which is my point exactly. It isn't illegals who are spreading this here, it is US citizens who have travelled to Mexico. Looks like Mahonri got it though.

And yes, that might be a decent idea.

We don't know who has it, or who is spreading it, actually. Unless you know something everyone else doesn't.

So would you suggest that US citizens who have gone to Mexico (it happens, you know) be refused re-entry and be detained in Mexico?

If we can come up with trailers for Katrina Victims, why can't we set up quarantine trailers at the border for our citizens who are trying to re enter the country? I think in two weeks it will probably all blow over.

At least, I hope it will.

Better yet, why don't they use the same, empty trailors that are just left to ruin EVERYWHERE. That is our tax money hard at work you know. Just like our hard working tax dollars doing that fly over New York City in Air Force one AND an F-16. The gas alone to fuel that was well over $300,000.00. I just can't believe the stupidity of the people that are supposed to represent us. Embarrassing understates it. We should have closed our borders after 9-11.

Welllllll........according to all the news reports I have heard, all the first US cases were people who had been to Mexico or lived with someone who had. It is awfully easy to try and blame the illegals for everything, but they are not the ones hopping on planes and spreading disease far and wide.

I think at this point they're saying that since it's already in the US they aren't going to close anything because it wouldn't help...closing the barn door after the cows got out, is what they seem to think.

I think if everyone just exercised proper hand washing and the sick stayed home, we'd be fine, but I worked in a clinic until January (laid off never looked so good!) and know people simply don't think of infecting others when they're sick...which is why it makes a bit of sense to mandate preventive behaviors.

I think if I lived near the border I wouldn't be any more fearful than I am now, I would simply try to avoid too much immersion in big crowds.

ETA- Isn't it legal to cross the border daily to work?? Don't lots of Mexicans walk across the border through the proper channels to work every day? I'm not at all sure there aren't just as many people crossing into Mexico as out every hour, and thus I would never say this has jack to do with immigrant or worker status.

That's a distinction that serves no purpose at all.

Yes, a lot of workers go to work from the US to Mexico, and vice versa. Too late to close borders for it to actually make a significant difference IMO.
Closing the barn door after the horse got out is exactly right.

I was not blaming anyone. We stay home most of the time anyway and take hand washing very seriously so I am not too worried either way. When I said that I think he was talking about the illegals, I was referring to this. How it got turned around to me blaming illegals is beyond me. LOL!! Some people,

Yes I think setting up a trailer and checking would help, the point I was trying to make is no matter what is set up to help control the flu.

How would anything work when we cant control all the illegals.

Putting in check point would be great, for onyone returning.

Not blaming the spread of the flu on the illegals, but shows without control our borders. Any deadly disease could not be stopped.

Yes we have thousand of illegals here in Ohio

IMHO we need to take the Swine Flu as seriously as any other flu. People die every year from the flu it is nothing new. Flu even the serious varieties do not float through the air and attack people. You must come into close contact with the virus to catch it. Getting hyper and blaming this person or that agency will not help.

Wash hands often, after every contact with another person, or environment or object that has public access. Limit personal contact, stop shaking hands and hugging, maintain your space around others. Learn proper hand washing, not just splashing water. If you go to a gym take your own towels, and water bottles. Take a bottle of sanitizer to spray and wipe equipment before use.

If you do become ill for whatever reason STAY HOME, do not make others sick. Flu mainly affects children, elderly, and anybody with a weakened system. Stay healthy, eat right, exercise, and get plenty of sleep. Stressing over the flu will only weaken your system.

BTW this is not our first go around with the Swine Flu, we did this in the late 70's and early 80's. The vaccine(live) at the time killed many people as well as the flu. I do not think live vaccines are used anymore. And though a flu shot may not protect against the swine flu, it will prevent other flavors that might weaken the system for the swine flu.
