Swinging Perches

I was inspired by all of your swinging perches, and since we added on to the run I had to rebuild their perch, so I decided to make one that swings (more side to side than anything). I did not have a good tree branch to use (just have to wait for a good wind storm) so I used a 2x4. Here are some pics. It is about 2.5-3 feet off the ground. I will be adding another solid perch once I can get my BF to cut another 2x4.

Weeble enjoying her new spot:

I have some chickens, wretched rebels, who like to roost in trees... I hope they read this and see what proper chickens should act like!

"wretched rebels"!!

Love it! Well said Chic-n-farmer!!

As for the swinging perches...our coop is wired and there is a bit of an excess of wiring that somehow missed being tacked up. I have two Minorca's that roost on that wire EVERY night. I never really thought about it much (except to check to make sure that the wiring wouldn't end up detaching from the junction box and frying the whole thing) until one evening I was out there for some reason at dusk. I watched, in astonishment, as my one girl jumped up to the wire and swung there for what seemed like forever. If this wasn't baffling enough to watch, another one of my girls jumped up and snuggled in beside the first one but facing the other way! And the wire swung again but this time getting way more action because of the first girl on there already. If I didn't know better I would swear they were enjoying themselves. For anyone who is interested, the wire is easily over six feet off the ground. Guess you just never can tell with chickens...

Cool perch. I was researching how to add a couple of perches to my run, and I think yours is a perch chickens would enjoy. I'll give it a try, and see if my girls like it.
