Hello. My female Pekin has had a swollen ankle for over a month now and limps on it, badly. She is still eating, drinking, and pooping normal. Normal grooming, and still laying. I've had her to the vet 2x for this and we are on our 3rd round of antibiotics. I've also tried soaking in Epsom salt baths. The vet did send off a culture, so waiting for news on that, but I'm at my wits end for her and thought I'd see if anyone on here has any ideas. Vet took an xray and said it wasn't a break, but that the swelling IS showing in her joint and alongside her outside toe. When this first started, the middle toe was swollen, too, but has healed, since then. Anyone out there have experience with this before or have any ideas what to do for her? ANY ideas are welcome! thanks!

When this first started, the middle toe was swollen, too, but has healed, since then. Let me add, that initially the vet thought it was a thorn that had gotten stuck in the outside toe, and pulled it out, but it hasn't helped. A few days later, she caught her toe on something and ripped the toenail completely off, and that's what you're seeing in the pics, now...a new toenail growing back out. Anyone out there have experience with this before or have any ideas what to do for her? ANY ideas are welcome! thanks!

Try wrapping that stuff they make for horses legs on the foot some how that will still let her move around. It helped reduce swelling in my rooster when he got a swollen ankle.

Thankyou. I've done that, once, and scared myself, because I think I wrapped it too tight and cut the blood off from the rest of her foot. It was cold a few hours later. Scared me!

I almost thought I was reading my own post. I have a duck with the exact same problem. I’ve spent hundreds at the vet and no answers. She’s ok but gets sad because she can’t keep up with the other ducks. I hope you get a diagnosis. Please let us know.
