Swollen belly?

Hello folks, I hope you can help me out. One of my female Welsh Harlequins (1 1/2 years old) has a very swollen lower abdomen. It seems as though it hurts her when I pick her up so I would say it is tender too. The swelling starts just ahead of her legs and goes back around her rear end. Can ducks have impacted eggs? I plan to take her to the vet as soon as I can tomorrow. She is such a sweet heart and I hate to see her in pain.

Welcome to BYC. So sorry you duck is sick. Ducks can get impacted eggs, and they can also get egg yolk peritonitis, and ascites. Taking her to a vet tomorrow is a good idea.

I'm having a very difficult time finding a vet that takes care of ducks here in my area of Ohio. I have left a message with a livestock vet and I'm hoping they call back soon. She is very sedentary this morning so she seems to be getting worse.

Google "avian veterinarian" and the nearest large city. An avian vet is what she needs, not a livestock vet.

Thank you. Just did some searching and the nearest is an hour away. I had no idea it was so hard to find a vet for ducks. I'm hoping my wife can take her today since I'm at work. Thank you very much for the help.

Yeah, my nearest is over an hour away too, so I know how difficult it is. Good luck, and I hope you can get her seen today.
