Swollen Crop?????

I think from the picture that the yellow one is a Buff Orphington and I think the rest are Amerucanas. And I hope I helped. That is a very true ending statement.

They are sweet. The blue egg layer is an ameraucana .

Thanx, they are really sweet. me and the kids handle them everyday. they are getting used to being hand fed and hopefully soon they will stop freaking out when I open the top of the brooder, or reach in to pick them up.

Also be careful feeding too many bread crumbs because the crumbs swell with water - maybe this contributed to your chicks' crops being larger and squishier than usual. Also you shouldn't be feeding anything hard without grit, because they will have a hard time digesting it and it will stick around in their crop. I was told nothing except soft, easy to digest stuff like banana and yogurt.

Have fun and good luck!

they normally get chick starter, but I ran out and wont be able to get any until tomorrow. So everything I have been feeding them is only for an emergency situation.
Thanx for everyones help

I was able to get the feed today. Everyone is eating and drinking fine. Now tonight, the crops feel harder than they did yesterday. I read in other posts that I should wait until the morning to feel if the crops empty. The chicks will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. My question is this: Can I take the food out for the night so I can test their crops in the morning? Any help is appreciated. Thanx

I did take the food out for the night. I figured they were old enough and could handle it. It worked out well. The crops were empty this morning. I feel better knowing they are ok. I just thought that they might have been impacted because of the cornmeal, rice krispies, and homimy grits they have been eating this weekend. I have not given them any type of bird grit this weekend.
