This Barred Holland cock at my university farm has a visibly swollen eye. I also can hear wheezing/rattling when he is breathing. It’s obvious that he has a respiratory infection. I suspect that it is ammonia induced as he was kept inside a farrowing (pig maternity) house with very poor ventilation. What do you guys think?

Poor air circulation, ammonia odor, and high temperatures can add to chances of getting respiratory diseases. MG, coryza, and E.coli are often responsible for a swollen eye. The eye may look sunken and have bubbles in it or crusty drainage. You could try to get some testing through a company such as Zoologix,

or try treating him with some Tylan 50 injectable given orally or tylosin soluble powder in his water found here:

This bird isn’t mine. He’s at my university’s farm. I did tell the person in charge that the bird shouldn’t be in the farrowing house, but they don’t care.
