Our year old Australorp's face is swollen.
It isn't that bad, but it certainly is weird.
She is eating and drinking fine. Infact she is drinking a lot. That maybe because the temperature here today was 111 F, so naturally her, and all the other hens, give very watery poo. Some are almost clear.
We are giving them dosage for coccidiosis and that is the only change in their diet. We are also getting weird eggs and a few shell less eggs twice or thrice a week. My hens aren't that young. They range from 9-13 months.
I have checked them multiple times for lice/mites, but I seemed to fine none. Many symptoms of all the hens points towards mites but I just haven't come across them yet. I gave her a bath 15 days ago with baby shampoo because she had poo stuck on her.
When I give everyone treats, she seems to be standing behind and eating the scrapes but she is high in pecking order. She is the oldest hen I have. She is also the favorite of the roo and he seems to attack her when she eats the treats which I give them, so maybe she is afraid now?
Because she is the oldest, she has lost a lot of feathers from the back of her head and above her tail. The rooster is really aggressive.
Any idea on why she is swollen? The last picture is her normal head.
