Can you get a photo of the inside of her beak?
Photos of her back and wings where she's been picked at?

She's getting worse - have you given her any type of treatments - supplements, vitamins, medications, etc.?

What's getting worse - the swelling, is she having a hard time breathing, is she coughing, etc.?

Oh gosh! That’s awful! Do you have Apis Mellifica remedy? I would give that too encase she’s having a reaction. It will treat an allergic response.

Boil the jar if possible. Otherwise clean it good. Get it into her ASAP. Turmeric too. I would go 1/2 tsp.

I don’t think I do. We just shot a nasty possum that was in the barn not 3 feet from her in the cage. She’s in a very safe cage the thought of it is just awful. It wasn’t going at her though, but if I wasn’t there it could have just scared her badly. I got the ledum solution in her. It’s 12:33 am now. I’ve been up for a long long time and feel dead tired. I’m going to have to wait till morning to look for other meds. She acts normal and is perched on a wood block asleep, and wasn’t even bothered when we disposed of the possum. She’s my fav hen and I feel so bad for her.

I cannot at the moment unless you feel it is important to have one immediately. She is asleep and I am close to it. She acts completely fine besides the swelling. She always “complains” as we call it or just walks around “talking” In some of the photos I know her beak was open but it was because she was protesting being in the crate. She’s not leaving it open. I just gave her a ledum solution. She gobbled up some blueberries and was happy to head back to her perch.

The swelling in her face and wattle may be from a chronic respiratory disease such as MG or coryza, an insect sting, or from trauma since she is picked on. I am not familiar with some of the products recommended here, but if respiratory disease is suspected, I would get Tylan 50 injectable, Tylosin powder for the water, or an antibiotic from your vet. I can give dosages. Her nostril is dirty, and that can be from nasal drainage becoming a magnet for dirt. That can happen with respiratory illnesses.

Thank you. If I can find a vet that could take her should I have her taken in? Or could I treat it myself? How do we know for certain what it is? I got some pictures of inside her beak but it was really hard and they are not great. She was NOT happy I also got some picture of her awful looking back lt has gotten considerably worse recently. I feel so awful. I would make her a house chicken if I didn’t have dogs that would kill her. She’s my favorite hen and I so badly want to help her. Also her other wattle is a little swollen now too. What do you think it most likely is? How should I move forward?

I actually no longer have a rooster. He got extremly aggressive towards people and was culled three months ago.

Also don’t be too alarmed if you see some red specks on her chest and neck, she brushed against our newly painted barn last week also I. Some of the photons I was feeding her blueberries

Do you notice a rotten odor from her face? Swollen wattles with her swollen face still seems like she may have been stung, but the possibility of coryza could be there. Testing is the only way to tell one disease from another. Most vets won’t do that, but your state vet might offer it. Also there is a national lab that will send you swabs and supplies to take swabs of your hen’s throat and beak for testing. It is about 80 dollars for 8 different respiratory diseases including MG and coryza. If you can get a good sample, that would be great. Here is a link for the lab to contact for more info:

I did not notice any smell but I have also lost most of my sense of smell due to covid that I got last year. I will have a family member come out with me a bit later.

If I was to give her turmeric for anti inflammatory, how much would I give her? I have this and another kind I also have these allergy pills, would these work?
