"That was my phone. Was." Phaedra muttered. At that point, she didn't care. She just wanted out of wherever they were. Adjusting her bag and sword, she continued up the sand dune.Jack, still turned in Phaedra’s direction, noticed the pile of plastic, glass, and metal. His eyebrows shot up. “Where did that come from?” He asked, walking nearer to kneel down next to the meager pile. He stuck his hand into the middle of it, then snatched it back as he pricked a finger on some sharp piece of once-phone. He had not discovered his phone in pieces mainly due to the fact that it had fell off his bed after he fell asleep. Even if it had been in one of his many pockets, there was a considerable chance that he would never have thought to look for it. Not like you had reception in a desert.
Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be an out of the desolate desert. Yellow-white sand stretched for miles, hazy lines blurring the horizon. A strange, small lizard darted past her, and she tried to ignore the fact that it appeared to have a mouth and several rows of razor sharp teeth running along it's side.
"Where the hell are we?"
Theodore darted closely behind her, amazed at how easily Zulema navigated the forest.Zulema remained quiet, not communicating any further until they were safe away from the Reaper lurking area of the forest. Actually it was quite obvious when you were in their territory, the atmosphere was eerie, the trees were void of birds, a majority of the vegetation was dried out and dead, and numerous fallen trees. She easily weaved through the forest in complete stealth while keeping her crossbow ready with a fresh arrow. Zulema made sure they remained close to the trunks of trees and large boulders while avoiding open spaces where the Reapers usually lingered. As she led Theodore through the very edge of their territory, she suddenly pinned herself up against the nearest tree and yanked Theodore up next to her in close proximity so they were face to face—well, more like Zulema’s face was right in Theodore’s chest. She raised a finger to her lips before xe could muster a word, obviously telling him to keep quiet.
A dark, ghostly figure in its pitch black cloak etched its way into Theodores sight as Zulema held her back to it. The Reaper crept along the path she was planning to lead them across slowly, still oblivious to the two individuals hurled up against the tree in its peripheral vision that was luckily obstructed by its obnoxious hood. But at the slightest turn of it’s head, it would immediately notice them.
Despite the fact he didn't know the forest, his steps were strangely silent. Xe didn't have a vision of the path, more so just strong intuition, and when they ignored it, they were normally right.
Xe exhaled sharply as she dragged xem close, pulling them both behind a tree. "I mean, you could at least let me take you to dinner first–" He murmured, but quickly took the hint to stay quiet.
His breath was unsteady, eyes locked on her face. But they didn't have to ask why she had done what she did. They sensed and heard the creature before they even saw it, ears twitching ever so slightly.
However, sensing The Reaper did not prepare them for the gut-wrenching, dizzying horror they felt as the creature crept into his sight. Xe looked away from her, eyes widening at the sight, showing just a fraction of his fear of the hooded creature.
It reaked of sheer evil. The seer visions once against plagued him, though unbeknownst to Zulema, unless she look him right in the eye and saw just how spaced out he was. All they saw was rows and rows of yellow teeth stained red, tearing into flesh. Abruptly ended screams echoed in xyr ears, defeaning to only xem.
Ohmygodwhatthehellisthatthing.
In between blackness and visions tainting his view, they watched the creature.
Watched as it paused.
As it's oddly shaped back heaved.
Heaved with uneven breaths that danced at a defeaning volume in their ears.
Watched as it turned.
Ever so slightly—
But ever so slightly was enough.
Enough for the yellow-purple eyes to catch sight of the pair, Theodore's much larger frame just blocking Zulema out of view.
Enough for it to make them it's newest target.
