Tabasco Sauce for cold weather

Had a fellow chicken fancier that told me to mix tabasco sauce (hot sauce) with my laying pellets and it would keep the hens laying in cold weather. Has anyone tried this or know if it works?

It's a variation on adding red pepper to make them lay in the winter.

Some claims it helps, but I never found any boost from it. I'd be leery of the Tabasco because of the high salt content.

Anything with a high salt content could have a detrimental effect on your hens kidneys.

I tried the pepper thing - can't say it made a jot of difference.

I tried the patience thing - now *that* produced results just fine

I may very well be mistaken, but it seems to me that I read somewhere on BYC that the pepper trick is more to jump start laying as opposed to getting hens to lay continuously or more.

I think patience would be the best trick.....just wondered if anyone had any experience with it !
