Tacky coop & run contest ****Update: It's time to vote!!!!!***

mom'sfolly :

Man, I am loving this thread!!!!! I often come here for ideas, but would so never post my coop for anyone to see. Dh and I made it and we are NOT handy. This has made me feel so much better. Most of the coops I see posted here, I would feel very comfortable moving into....but these, no thanks.

C'mon, don't be shy.

I thought mine wasn't bad, but wasn't really good either LOL I'm currently editing my page to enter it into the "how to" contest that ends within the week. However I couldn't help but add it here too since it's a dog-house LOL

I'm still working on my page layout but you can see how we built this here: Dog Coop - To:The chickens, Love:The dog

Oh let me edit this, I found my "first" coop I ever made... I outdid myself on this one LOL

The run is okay, it's an actual dog kennel. The coop itself housed TWO, that's right TWO chickens. It's 1ft x 1ft (I misunderstood how much room chickens needed on my first attempt lol) and yes the ramp is made of shingles and the legs are fence poles. Oh, and the TOP of this comes off LOL

The dog house is really cute - but the other one, that's a gem! How many different building materials did you use plywood, shingles, PVC? I know you gave us the pic with the junked out car as an added bonus I love it!!!!

I was thinking the same thing! Love the car in the background!

I've actually considered something like that. I've seen a hen nesting in the engine compartment of a Blazer or something here on BYC. And, of course, there is this one. But what I was thinking was an old school bus. There is a school bus garage down the road from me and from time to time they have to be replaced due to mileage despite being in otherwise excellent shape. If I lived in an unincorporated area where I could park a junked school bus I would so do it. There would be virtually nothing to do to have yourself a giant coop. Maybe rip out the seats, put some HW cloth over the windows and build a ramp. I have some friends that use one as a mini hunting lodge/camp. They have it parked on an abandoned strip mine they bought. They only thing they really did was tear out the seats, make some shutters out of garage door panels, and put some cots in it. For awhile they even maintained the engine and electrical system so they could run the heater, but I think that's been replaced with a barrel stove or something.

HEY! THAT LOOKS LIKE MY OLD CAR!
I love this thread, I am cancelling my order for poultry netting and putting my old trampoline to what IMO is the best possible use of a trampoline I have ever seen!
Love it!
