tail down, lethargic , drinking.

Can you post any new pictures of the feet? I would find out how to get a culture done on the pus or exudate coming from the foot lesions. Call your regular vet, your state poultry lab in Mass. and ask how one would go about that. Test for Mycoplasma synovitis and other bacteria. It shouldn’t cost that much. It can be dangerous just treating with one antibiotic then another, not knowing exactly what the problem is. MS according to Merck vet manual and others, say that MS is usually not easily treatable.

I would try to get a diagnosis before using more antibiotics. And I would give probiotics (probios powder) or plain Greek yogurt with live cultures while on antibiotics and for a week after. Give the probiotic in between doses of the antibiotic for best results. This can help prevent diarrhea and help to replace the benifical gut bacteria.

Thank you. I was giving her rooster booster in her water. I’ll stop.
I am still giving her Vitamin A & E. Should I discontinue ? I’ll look for tor doxy today. Thanks again .
Dose for a 3 pound bird

Vitamin A deficiency will cause thin foot pads. E is wonderful support for the immune system. I would continue to give her both of these.

She came out of the pen today and enjoyed the sunshine. I’m happy she is still thriving and trying to overcome this. she’s a warrior.
I tried to pm you but couldn’t find somewhere to send a message. is it possible?

Here is where you can call or email about getting your chicken tested for mycoplasma synovitis or MS:

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know I spoke with the poultry inspector. Unfortunately she isn’t very interested in backyard flocks...they are mainly concerned with people who exchange chickens from one property to another property, or show. ....and they only test for Salmonella Pullorum or Avian Influenza. Either which she thought would be in my little flock.
~ but thank you, it was worth a shot.
The local “exotic “ vet is still booked, no cancellations to squeeze me in till sometime in February.
Omelet remains stable. I’ll get updated photos tomorrow when I unwrap her feet. ...doxycycline on order, they didn’t give me a delivery date yet....I’m guessing a week.

If you have a good relationship with your regular vet and beg a little, they should be able to give you a swab to collect a specimen for culture and sensitivity. That way you could just pay them for the cost of that. Vets are strictly regulated by their states nowadays as to needing to see a patient before they can treat, but a friend might help you out. My own daughter who is a vet in another area cannot even give me a prescription wormer if she hasn’t seen my dogs in her clinic. More government regulation at work to keep us all safe.

Unfortunately, I visit a large fancy animal hospital, and they aren’t friendly like that....very formal, and expensive. I spent 10,000 on my 2 English mastiffs. BUT I did call and try....no luck. I even tried my friends wife, who is a vet there...and lives close to me....she won’t budge. And I’m a nice person (lol)
Oh well

Omelet has an appointment early, this Saturday ,with a vet “familiar “ with chickens.
today we unwrapped her feet, soaked them in warm water, dried, applied collasate, and rewrapped. No draining today because one foot, her left looked very swollen from the hock to the top of her foot. I don’t want to make things worse. 😞. I’m not a vet tech.
~tomorrow, doxycycline arrives. And that’s the only thing I’ll do differently in till Saturday when she is seen.
