So....all of my hens could have this. Could have had this for a long time,...and possibly the molt brought it out In her. And even if I treat her...it may never go away....it could happen to any of my birds because most likely, they have caught it. She has shown symptoms of lameness starting in early December, I thought it was just a sprain,... ...then,the foot inflammation showing up 2 weeks ago.
maybe I am better off culling her. ....it will kill me, I love her, but from what I read, it seems that this most likely isn’t goi g to be cured. ....and I will probably loose all my Birds to this!?

Culling is up to you. I’m not a vet. You could get testing with a necropsy by the state vet if you did cull. It could be that not that many chickens would show symptoms of MS if that is what you are dealing with. They would be considered carriers, but not necessarily get the swollen ankles. MS is seldomly treated successfully. You could also just see how she does, if she seems to be in a lot of pain, and go from there. She might be fine just walking around her coop and you could medicate her with spirin or meloxicam from the vet. But I would try to get some joint fluid tested to know what you are dealing with.

Thank you .
Saturday, I’m sure they will test her joints.
ugh ~ 😥
twocrows has a lot of knowledge about MS, she has had it in her flock too, and has given me good advice.
I feel bad and guilty that I’ve had a bird feeder about 3o feet from my chicken pen...and of course the hens wander over there and look for missed seed. ...maybe that’s where they got this crappy-ass thing from.
ill post Saturday afternoon and let know you’all know what I hear back from the vet.

Yes, Two Crows knows quite a bit about MS, and has been very helpful to several people that I have asked to help here. She is a very nice person as well.
And so have you. You’ve all been very kind.
I was telling two Crows that I had another thought....and I’ll ask the vet ....but Omelet haS been eating a very heavy dose of protein for 3 weeks . She was in a hard molt when this lameness started, but without the feet swelling. I was advised to up the protein for the molt. I bought feather fixer, added mealworms, and an egg every day.
That’s when the feet swelled....I continued with scrambled egg every morning now, because I could mix in the amoxicillin....the abcesses look better...but the swelling is worse.
is this GOUT?

You can re-read my post 80 on page 8 where I discussed why it didn’t appear to be gout to me. Usually gout can have many possible causes, and if too much protein is a factor, it is usually from feeding over 30% protein in the diet which would be hard to do. Eggs have about 13% protein. It really looks like pictures of MS if you want to look at some pics.

Yes...just reread your post and chatted with twocrows . No lumpy swollen toes on my girl. Grasping at straws and was hoping to rule out MS in any possible way I could. 😥
But it appears that is what we have. I was reading about a treatment using spiramycin. If the vet comes back with that diagnosis (I really don’t have faith in vets NEAR ME treating chickens) ...I might try to locate that drug and try it. I read good things about it and MS.
