Do you think you can get the B-tab directly into her beak? That, more than anything, is going to strengthen her legs. There is no danger in giving her a whole tablet every day. B vitamins do not accumulate in the body. For this reason, they need to be given every day to be effective.

Are you continuing with the high protein extra feedings? Egg, tofu, cottage cheese, etc. Since she did improve with this nutritional program, there's every reason to believe it should work if you ramp it up again.

The lameness and weakness could be from an injury, exposure to a toxin, or a vitamin deficiency. Vitamin E and B-complex can help in each of these cases. I hope you're game to keep trying. The vitamin E can also be a miracle agent in some cases of neurological injury or a sudden vitamin deficiency. Just a few days ago on Christmas, my eleven and a half year old hen Lady Di suddenly was stricken with wry neck. She was so contorted, I thought she had broken her neck, couldn't stand or even hold her neck up.

I treated her immediately with E and selenium, and held her while gently straightening her head and neck and body. It absolutely blew me away when she returned to normal in just fifteen minutes. She will be getting the E for a few more days to be sure she's not going to relapse.

hi,
I’m so happy Lady Di got better! Yay! yes, I can continue the vitamins. I was afraid of overdosing her. It seemed her poop was wetter when I gave it to her every day, but that could be a coincidence. she is really enjoying her scrambled eggs...and cottage cheese. She wouldn’t eat the cat food, but she ate some tuna last week, and some fresh raw cod. Just a teaspoon...wasnt sure how much I should give her.
I’ll continue with the eggs and cottage cheese, she loves it, and add the 1/2 B complex and E. I also gave it to my other chickens a few times last week, seeing 3 others are molting. Actually, all but one, 9 month old chicken, is molting. No eggs.
Thank you for helping me get omelet through this. I’ll post back Sunday and let you know how she’s doing.
I truly appreciate all your support and patience. I love my chickens, but she is my favorite and special girl. (That’s omelet in the photo, with a little girl that lives nearby. )

Well ... it’s been 2 weeks of a lot of TLC from all of you and myself. the good news; she’s eating and drinking.
bad news ; still not 100%. ... but ever-so-slightly ... better.
Still seems “clumsy” and slow ... won’t eat unless it’s in her face and easily accessible because she won’t stand long. kennel with food close by is a god send.
Drinks freely. still takes long breaks in a squatting position.

I won’t take up more space here. I just want to update you.
I hate when someone has a problem and we never hear from them again. Successful ? A loss ? What happened. ..?
Omelet and I, we are slowly approaching the ridge I believe.

happy new year ! You didn’t just help me, I’m sure you all helped many.
god bless.

Please do keep us updated on how Omelet (and YOU!) are doing. I agree with Carol (@azygous ) It's your thread, post away. I rarely ever turn off any alerts for threads so anything you post will show up for me (even years from now - it happens! LOL)
I too like to know what happens, whether "good" or "bad" it's for the love of chickens and, of course, there is the human emotion side too (we need to share, support, cheer and grieve right along with you).

Omelet isn’t eating much, or drinking much. She is still in the crate...but she won’t walk 6” to her food. I have to hand feed her, and put the water by her chest. She will eat some, and drink a little each time I offer it, but it isn’t enough. I’m still making scrambled eggs, mixed with vitamins, and adding rooster booster, or vet exercise to the water........
last night and tonight I carried her all the way to the coop, because she wouldn’t get up and try to walk there herself.
I brought her inside the house and gave her a thorough going over....I can’t see anything wrong (no bugs, no crazy dandruff) , or feel anything unusual. No bound egg...legs are not swollen....eyes are clear, pupils are round and black....
I hope this isn’t mareks. She was limping , then better , then bad again, ..now she is worse.
Please. ....not mareks.

If it is....will everyone die?

Awww...what a sweet photo.
I'm so sorry she's still not doing well.
It may be Marek's or a number of ailments that chickens can suffer from.
Sadly, a lot of times the only way to know what's going on is if you lose them and have a necropsy performed:(

Thanks. I’ve owned my chickens for about 32 months .... it’s a lot harder than I imagined. I’ve lost one from an impacted crop, and another that just died. it’s even harder now that my favorite is ill.
If its marek .... will
They all get sick and die? I keep my coop and run immaculate but if it’s something like that, I read it’s impossible to rid your coop of that illness.

And to add to my woes ~ this morning I found her in the coop floor. As I carried her to her kennel I noticed the start of bumble foot. There’s a small lump under the skin , on the top of one foot.... looks like it’s just starting up.
Shoot me

Hi’ I’ve had my 6 chickens for 1& 1/2 years . A few of them just molted heavily. One of them, was my 1 1/2 year old Easter egg chicken. None of my chickens have been laying eggs for weeks now.
It’s winter here in Ma. ..chilly at night , 20-35.
~ this hen, has been walking slowly , but prefers to plop down. She been snuggled into the corners of the run (they don’t free range unless I’m there to watch them) ....but she manages to roost at night. Seems unbalanced when she hops up.

Yesterday I felt like I hadn’t seen her eat much. So I put her in a dog kennel , in the run with food and water so she could get to them easily.
~ this morning, she wouldn’t touch her meal worms...or yogurt. (I was trying to get her to eat anything). Initially, I thought she hurt a wing, because she limped one day late, last week,...but then seemed ok after that.
Today she drank some water, maybe 1/8 cup.....didn’t eat much. Has been in a crate and hunkered down all day. Not much poop in the crate...seems like clear wet pine shavings with a little bit of bright white smears.
any suggestions ?
Don’t judge me please, I live in the city, no “chickens” doctors locally. There is one 1 hour away that charges $200 to walk in the door. I’d like to try home remedies before I head that route.
‘thanks

I wish I had an answer instead of a similar problem. I have lost 1 hen a month or so ago. She was listless and behaving in the same way Crazy Chocolate Dog’s hen is behaving. We gave the whole flock vitamins and Remedy but she died after a couple of weeks. (Also treated for coccidiosis.) Now another hen is acting the same. What would kill them like this. We are in Texas. It’s been below freezing on many nights. HELP.
