tail feathers

My nephew and his girlfriend found a baby chick in middle of road on christmas eve in Indiana. My silkies didn't take to it so been living in house with me. In trying to figure out age I have been watching feathers come in. First wing feathers, no tail feathers, back feathers have just started coming in. Does this mean it's a roo? or is it to soon to tell?
