Tails Of Golden Feather- A rooster who has survived all odds

Chapter 15

"Sage!" Lilith cried.
I opened my eyes, even though it hurt.
Colors blurred around me, and I could just see the faint outline of Lilith's golden feathers.
"Don't die! Please!"
Footsteps.
Lilith's crying.
That was all I could hear.
I could only see colors.
"Lilith... where am I?"
"We're by the river. Under the tree we just slept in." Her voice was shaking.
The footsteps grew louder.
Suddenly, a rough hand clasped my throat, and laughed.
A laugh I knew too well.
"Well, well."
I knew that voice.
"We meet again."
He suddenly grabbed Lilith by her throat.
All my pain ebbed away and was replaced by anger.
I sprung to life.
"Let go of her!" I screeched.
"Oh, there's no use!" The human cackled.
He began walking toward the river.
Suddenly, we were both flying through the air.
I suddenly was surrounded by the endless, cold brown water of the river.

Oh no!! more please!!

Chapter 16

"Sage!"
"Lilith!" She was caught in the current too, blood matting her face. Her blue eyes were sparked with fear.
The weight of the water was dragging me downwards.
Lilith got swept up and hit my backside. I flipped over onto my stomach, grabbed her gently with my talons, as the water was moving, I tossed her onto the shore.
"Save yourself while you can!" I screeched.
"Sage!"
"Don't chase after me!" I yelled. "You'll live, that's all that matters!"
"I can't watch the last one I care about die!" She cried.
"Well, I'm not going to give you a choice."
The water began to slope downwards in a long fall.
"You'll be okay without me! Go find a human, and you'll live! I'll be looking for you on the day you die!" I yelled, as the waterfall came closer.
"Sage! No!"
"Goodbye, Lilith."
And I fell.

Chapter 17

Falling, falling...
There was nothing I could do about it.
I could just see my life dying before me.
But I wasn't afraid.
I was doing this for Lilith.
I hit the bottom, and was able to flip over and swim.
I was struggling to get up.
I didn't know which way was up.
I dragged myself to the shore, and laid down there, panting hard, struggling for air.
This was it. Here. I was going to die.
There was no point in trying to get up again.
I'd already been through so much, what was the point of life anymore?
I closed my eyes and panted.
Sage would've saved us.
But Sage was gone.
Love... came the silent reply. Love is the point of life...
I panted harder.
Go find Lilith. She's waiting for you...
I closed my eyes again, and saw an image of Lilith, on the shore, crying.
I opened my eyes to the blurred shapes and colors.
I didn't have the strength.
I was too hurt.
Blood ran from my cuts and trickled into the water, giving it a bloody tint.
Get up! the silent voice urged.
"How will I ever get up there?" I asked.
the trees... said the silent voice. The trees will help you get back to Lilith...

Chapter 18

Go... go to her... The voice urged me on.
"I-I can't..."
Blood was running from my beak like a waterfall.
She's waiting...
I closed my eyes.
I saw her image, still on the bank, not crying as hard as she was before, she was standing up and her feathers blowing in the wind.
"I'll wait for you, even if it takes thousands of years, I'll wait for you." She softly said, one lone tear escaping her blue eyes.
I jerked and opened my eyes at the same time.
"Lilith..."
I could smell her sweet lilac scent...
See her silk eyes painted with dry tears rejoice when I appeared.
I never thought I'd be in pieces left behind.
I kept struggling through the nights.
I knew she was waiting.
"Lilith... I know you've changed. You're the old Lilith again."
Your wounds are healing, young 'un. Go to her, Sage...
I forced myself to get up.
My legs were so wobbly...
It was a painful trip to the first tree.
I closed my eyes.
I remembered Lilith climbing the brooder wall and hanging upside down.
I traced her exact steps to the top.
Beak... foot... push...
I realized this wasn't very different.
Foot... push... wings... beak...
Next thing I knew I was at the top.
Now leap... The silent voice was saying.
So I did.
There was a steep slope climbing the waterfall, lined with trees.
I almost was to the top.
I closed my eyes, once more.
I could smell Lilith's sweet lilac scent.
She was at the edge, still waiting, with dried tears painting the sides of her eyes.
I knew I had to go.
I jumped, flapping my wings, lifting me higher.
But the cold winter breeze flew by, and my wings began to ice over.
And I toppled out of the air... falling once more.
