Rumney, exactly. If I wouldn't be comfy licking my hands I should wash them and do.

I have this incredible habit of touching my face a lot, sticking my fingers in my mouth, biting dead skin or nails, licking fingers after eating, etc. Sometimes I feel like a toddler. But what matters most is, are my hands clean enough to do those unconscious actions safely? If not, they need a warshing!

So, like, just opening my coop isn't going to get my hands too dirty. And if the eggs are pretty clean, I would be content to put my fingers in my mouth after. But if I pick up a bird? Nuh-uh. D: Big naw. gotta wash first.

 I try to...I’ll catch myself sometimes. Like Yikes! When going in the kitchen I have a habit of always washing my hands.
I catch myself wiping my face eyes/mouth when I’m working outside (especially sweating in summer)
Am I perfect every time? Nope.
Been times when I didn’t have a Kleenex too...well you know no ones really lookin. :sick

Of course! How can you not adjust your glasses or tuck your hair behind your ear?? I do it all the time. I touch doorknobs and coat zippers without disinfecting. We are not surgeons. Don't get me started on the kids, they are simply a disgusting mess no matter what I do. I like to think they are perfecting their immune systems. But I just can't worry to that level (and I have OCD -- diagnosed and treated -- I am very good at worrying). I love my time with my chickens (and the peace they bring me) more than I worry an illness I could catch.

I kiss my Hens good night but never the Roo's. :drool Then I come in and eat :pop while watching TV I lean over to kiss my wife :hugs. I look at her, smile and say dear I know deep down you too really like my chickens don't you? She usually does:smack. Oh yeah I always make sure to wash my hands before going to the bathroom. And what's all this scrubbing your feet in the shower all about? Isn't that why there is water in the bottom of the shower to begin with heck sometimes I use the grit in the bottom as exfoliation for my feet. Ok not sure of what other foolish thing I could say but to answer the OP's question yes I always without fail wash my hands before opening a nice cold beer.
Happy New Years !! :plbb:plbb

Yes, I wash hands every time I handle birds, eggs, feeders, waterers, cleaning coop, etc. At one time I had a food safety license , I have also been a certified nurse assistant, and I got in the habit of washing hands a lot. I wash my hands after going out in public too. I have to use a LOT of lotion for dry hands!
