Rumney, exactly. If I wouldn't be comfy licking my hands I should wash them and do.
I have this incredible habit of touching my face a lot, sticking my fingers in my mouth, biting dead skin or nails, licking fingers after eating, etc. Sometimes I feel like a toddler. But what matters most is, are my hands clean enough to do those unconscious actions safely? If not, they need a warshing!
So, like, just opening my coop isn't going to get my hands too dirty. And if the eggs are pretty clean, I would be content to put my fingers in my mouth after. But if I pick up a bird? Nuh-uh. D: Big naw. gotta wash first.

I try to...I’ll catch myself sometimes. Like Yikes! When going in the kitchen I have a habit of always washing my hands.

Then I come in and eat
while watching TV I lean over to kiss my wife
. I look at her, smile and say dear I know deep down you too really like my chickens don't you? She usually does
. Oh yeah I always make sure to wash my hands before going to the bathroom. And what's all this scrubbing your feet in the shower all about? Isn't that why there is water in the bottom of the shower to begin with heck sometimes I use the grit in the bottom as exfoliation for my feet. Ok not sure of what other foolish thing I could say but to answer the OP's question yes I always without fail wash my hands before opening a nice cold beer.
