Nope, I do wash my hands before I handle chickens if I can. I always wash my hands before I handle eggs unless I'm going to eat them.
I know, you can pick up diseases from chickens, but you can from any animal including humans. I would be more prone to washing my hands after shaking hands with people......

I plan on it, at the very least I'll have a hand sanitizing station attached to my coop.

Don't let that stuff give you(and anyone else) a false sense of security and cleanliness,
nothing replaces a good scrubbing with soap under running water.

When you really start thinking about it...you'd have to wash every 10 minutes.
After designing equipment for and working in biological clean rooms for 20 years,
I see places of 'bug' growth ev.ery.where and myself cross-contaminating all.day.long.

I am adamant about washing my hands whenever I come back from being outside in the yard, barn and/or coop. I wash my
hands after cleaning up from my dogs, cats and hedgehog as well. So, yes!

That is the reality. I would need to walk about with a sanitizing unit on my back.
If you occasionally pop out to feed the chickens and go straight back into the house then washing your hands after contact with chickens, or other animals may be realistic.
I'm out and about dealing with a variety of non humans many of which I may have physical contact with, even if it's only to shove a fat a** donkey out of my way.
It's just not practicable to maintain 'clean room' hygiene.

Having a large amount of birds I can't afford to lose I definitely wash my hands before and after handling poultry, or if i've been out at other farms or generally out in public I try to wash up and get into a clean set of clothes before going outside to take care if anyone..
