I have a left over egg from a broody hen, and yesterday I put it under a heat lamp it started to chirp and hatch. That was about at 6 in the evening. now, in the morning, the whole in the egg is the same size, the chick still chirping.

Is there something wrong?? How long does does it usually take for a chick to hatch? Thanks! i am new to this so any help is great!

What do you have for moisture.. If its just under a lamp it is probably shrinkwrapped in the egg.. Get a warm moist rag and make a lil nest around the egg.. They have to have moisture at about %60 to hatch out properly..let us know how it goes.. The only other thing to do would be to help but I hate to have to ..

thank you! I did have a try of water in the container. i just wrapped a wet towel around the egg. The chick is still chirpping!

You can very gently try to pry off the egg.. i give my babies atleast 24hrs to get out before I do anything with pulling them out..

Alright...I think i'll have to do that. But the chick seems to be positioned awkwardly, like the beak is in between the body somehow and she can't reach any more shell. Ill post a pic soon. thank you though!

Here is the chick. What do you think? does is look like it is in an awkward position? You can see the beak on the lower bottom part.

I am in no way an expert.. But she looks to be in the wrong position.. I would try to slowly one lil peice at a time peel the shell off .. If you see blood stop cover with the warm towel for about a half hour then start again.. stopping any time you see blood

Thank you still for being there!

so I slowly started to pull away small parts of the shell, and then the chick started to push out. As i was pulling away, there was no blood. Then the chick popped out completely on its own. When it came out, there was a small spot of blood on the egg, and it seems to have come from the vent/tail area of the chick, but it is not gushing blood. The chick seems healthy, moving around the container. But is seems to be having trouble standing-does it normally take a while for a chick to stand after it's first hatched?
Thank u so much again!

That's almost exactly how the duckling I had to help out of its shell last night was positioned - except that my duckling also had a little foot curled up next to where it's little bill was coming out - but it's abdomen was curled up around its head, exactly like your chick.

I held it in a damp cloth, carefully chipped away half the shell (just the shell - no membrane, because it still had active blood vessels in the inner membrane), then wetted down the membrane, and place it back in the incubator. I had to keep wetting down the membrane every hour or so for the whole day, until the blood vessels in the inner membrane shut down and dried up and it was safe to free the duckling from the membrane. I peeled it down around him, until he had enough leverage to push himself out with his other foot! He's a bit runty, but just fine now!

It took him all night to learn how to use his legs though - he was still wobbly and stumbling about this morning. I think my duckling and your chick will both be just fine!
