Hi all! This is my third hatch and I thought it was going to be my best. I had 8 make it to lockdown. I am well into day 21 and not a single pip. We have always had a pip by now. At least 5 are still moving. Humidity was 40-45 for the first 18 days and 60 now (we live at 6200 feet). Temp 99.5 the entire time. This is the same as my last hatch. Success stories for late hatches?

Oh yes. We have chicks that decide to wait an extra day sometimes. They worry us every time, but almost always they hatch. I guess some of them just decided they were gonna chose their own time. The thing is, is if you do start to worry, you can't pip it for them. It is entirely up to the chick if they are going to hatch at all, and there is nothing you can do if they don't. But again, don't worry to much. If they are still moving they are still alive and they will most likely hatch. God bless, and I hope all your chicks live long happy lives.

Thanks for the input! Last I checked they were much less active, but hopefully they are saving up energy for the big reveal! And yes, chicken eggs :)

They may have started incubating later than you were counting because on day 20 they do lose activity to save energy for pipping and hatching the next day or 2.

I would wait. If they don’t pip by the 22 I would suggest you give them a little pip hole so they can breath. Some people say not to help assist a chick other’s do. I say that you do what feels right. If you do plan on assisting make sure to let the baby do most of the work after giving them a bit of a “boost”. They could also be very dry and having a hard time to move because it might not be enough humidity for them to freely move.

So I just candled them. We just entered day 23. One was internally pipped and peeping at me like crazy. I tried to get through the egg with a large screw but couldn't get through. I put it back in the incubator because I didn't want to leave her out for too long. Any advice?
