Taming Ducklings

I turned the camera on (on my iPad) and used the front camera so they would be able to see their self. They didn't pay any attention to it lol

I had a Peking when I was 4, I was his momma and he followed me every where! Obviously don't remember what I did back then. But I would think that spending as much time as you can sitting with them, letting them & holding them would create that bond. We just got 3 Rouens & 3 Pekings Tuesday. I also peep at them when they are vocal & feed them from my hand.

I have been sitting by their brooder, just so they can get used to me being around them. I held them this morning (everyday before and after school too) before I came to school. One laid down on my leg and I just sat there and rubbed his chest while he was laying there. He loved it! But they don't eat from my hand. (At least not yet) If I put my hand in the brooder with some feed in my hand, they just run to the other side. I think they know I have feed though cause I held it by their mouth before they ran off.

Try offering them some (thawed) frozen peas. My ducks LOVE those. They'll eat them out of my hand even though they're not tame at all.

I think initially it was the ceiling fan they saw moving, and once they started pecking at that, they saw themselves and started pecking their reflections. They were probably 4-5 weeks old when they started doing that.

I would also try feeding them when you have them out of the brooder. The brooder is a safe haven, everything outside the brooder is big and scary (including you). When they are outside the brooder, those things aren't as scary. So when they are out with you, like when the one was on your leg, feed them by hand then. Once they are used to eating treats from you, they might eat in the brooder from your hand. And if one or two are good with it, the rest will follow.
