Tangled with a fox

I would give them oral antibiotics asap. Fox mouths contain a shed load of very nasty bacteria. Deep wounds can look like they are healing but deep in the internal tissues an infection can fester. You will think they are getting better because the wound is healing on the outside and they seem bright, but in a week or two they could die of sepsis.

Oral antibiotics is a must for this type of injury.

Do you know how hard it is to keeo a chicken still, raise her wing, and take a picture at the same time.
Yes, no one to help here either, and I appreciate your efforts.
They look pretty good, I see no red infection.
Hard to say if AB's are needed, personal decision.

Thank you everyone. Getting AB may be difficult. No real avian vets around here and the regular vets require seeing each animal before prescribing, which of course is a minimum of 45-50. Then the cost of the medication. At that rate I could buy several laying hens.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I wanted to give an update. The easter egger started laying this week, so I think that's a good sign. Eggs are healthy and large. Wounds are closing up nicely snd feathers are sprouting and covering them. Overall I think they're gonna pull through. Not many csn say they tangled with a fox and lived. Thank you to those who gave advice. Sometimes they seem strong as hell, and other times they seem so fragile.

Thread's 'old' at all.... and always good to update!
Glad she recovered, did you do anything special for treatment?

I actually have not. I did keep spraying the wounds with an antibacterial and kept feeling around them for hot spots. Work got crazy and my spare time dwindled, so I'm glad they turned out to be strong birds. The wels wound was wider but even it is healing nicely. I think it's helped that they were caged on the patio. Less stress and less contamination.
