Tapeworms...Yuck!

If you want to give her exactly 20mg per kilogram the dose is .33ml.

Here is the formula I use:
Pounds divided by 2.2 (that gets weight in kg) times the of mg you want to use, which for this drug is 20mg per kg and divide that by the number by the mg in one ml, which with this drug is 113.6. This is what it looks like for a 4.1 pound hen:
  • 4.1 / 2.2 * 20 /113.6 = 0.33ml (rounded up from 0.32810499359) Valbazen is pretty safe, so you could up that to 0.4 ml and not worry.

Try a couple and I think you'll find that the average sized chicken will get less than 0.6ml. Big monster hens, like Jersey Giants will be closer to 0.9ml.

Thank you Kathy....you have helped a lot. :thumbsup

I feel like I can actually say I have figured out worming lol.

Quote: You're welcome! Not that long ago the math really did intimidate me. I got tired of asking Mike to calculate my doses, so I dusted off the 'ole brain and started to figure out ways to do it. If nothing else it, keeps me using a part of the brain that I haven't had to use in a long time.

So I have wormed her twice and I am still seeing the little nasties in her poop. She had her last dose of Valbazen on the 17th. Is that her body just expelling the rest or should I worm her a third time in 10 days? I sure did not notice this much tapeworms the first time around, but the second time she is just popping them out right and left.
