Tapeworms...Yuck!

Yeah..I already bought the safeguard. So might as well try it. I haven't found any consistent information on dosage. I have a call into UC Davis for dosage lol.

FYI, I'm a little OCD when it come to dosing, lol.

Maybe this will help to pick a dose: It's from Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook. -Kathy
This is great! This is all UCD is going to tell me. Thank you!

Quote: Look at the link I sent you and you'll see that many different doses are recommended.

That link is from this set of books:

Clinical Avian Medicine

I've never treated tapes, but I sure would try Safeguard if I ever saw any evidence of them. No reason to return the wormer unless you can't afford the $10 for a tube of Zimectrin Gold.

Next experiment is to figure out how many mg are in the various sized blobs of Zimectin Gold and Equimax.

I've used Safeguard against tapes and it is INEFFECTIVE.
I've dealt with tapeworms many times. Zimectrin Gold, Equimax and Valbazen will kill tapeworms.
Good luck JensChickies with whatever you decide to use.

Do you have a link to where I can buy the correct Valbazen?

Dawg has a link for a smaller, less expensive 60ml bottle that is $25 including shipping, but price per ml, the 500ml bottle is the better deal at $42 plus shipping.

Recommended dose is ~0.2ml per 2.2 pounds orally and repeat in ten days.

Disclaimer: I have not used it yet and the dose above is based off of:

  • Recommendation from a vet
  • Published study
  • The poultry pedia website
