Tapping

Good morning,

I have an 8 week old Sussex that constantly taps the metal tub. Has anyone else had this issue?

This is common behavior with chicks. They are attracted to the sound or sometimes they get fixated on a speck on the wall or even stand in a sun beam snapping at dust motes. Humans don't have the monopoly on obsessive compulsive behavior.

The only issue could be damage to the tender beak repeatedly stabbing at the hard metal. It would be better to give the chicks something soft to peck at to satisfy this urge. These are a couple of toys I came up with that are soft for my chicks.

One is a tennis ball with red dots drawn on it with red magic marker. The other is a foam noodle used for stuffing cracks around a window stapled to a block of wood and with red duct tape for "targets".
