taste of eggs

i'll bet if you ran a blind taste-test with eggs for her, she wouldn't know the difference (well, would say yours tasted better but not "funny")... if someone goes into a "new eggperience" - hah! - with a preconceived notion that "i might not like this" or something, then they're not going to like it. i count myself lucky to have friends lining up for a dozen eggs now and then from our girls. they all agree, fresh eggs have much better color, cook better, eggshells crack nicely, texture is awesome and the FLAVOR! i'm sorry that she was stinky about the eggs - i'm with everyone else... no more eggs for her!

It became extremely apparent to a friend and I last year when we raise a batch of Cornish x's. They were great! He's married with two kids. None of them; his wife, his son(12), or his daughter(8) would eat the meat from the chickens we raised. His wife said "if it doesn't come from a store, it's not the real thing." I wish so bad there was a production farm or whatever we could tour to show her how her "real thing" is handled.

That must have been so frustrating for both of you. I'm sure their are plenty of videos on the web you could show them. Too bad they wouldn't be able to smell the stench. You could also give them some of the information on the nutritional differences between pasture raised animals and eggs from pasture raised chickens and those from the factory farmed creatures they're used to consuming. I doubt it would do any good, though, since all of this information has been around for quite a few years, now. It never hurts to try, though!

I have to agree with this one. Tell your friend to do a google search on battery hen and see where grocery store eggs come from. IF your eggs really DO have an aftertaste, which I doubt, it's probably because your hens eat REAL food and live in an environment where they can move around and spread their wings. It's the flavor of freedom.

I don't really even like eggs, but I love the ones from my girls. Especially when I know what they are eating and how they are treated. Darned eggs should be plated in gold...

My dad used to raise chickens and he gave me some eggs one time and they were a little too gamey for my taste. BUT more recently I tried some fresh eggs from a neighbor and they were the BEST I've ever tasted in my life, so now I'm wondering if maybe the taste varies according to what the chickens are being fed. Is this possible?

After my original flock was killed off by predators 2 years ago, I bought some eggs from the store and scrambled them up for my dad and I one night. They tasted like cardboard! I didn't buy any after that.
2 years later, it's so nice having girls again, and enjoying fresh eggs. It's the only way to go.

just tried eating a store bought egg after a very long time of having eggs from my girls. YECH! what vile substance have they been feeding those birds? the shells were so thin, the whites were so hard....

I've been selling/giving eggs away to people i know and they say that my eggs are "eggier" and they seem to like it.

I'd expect eggs to pick up certain flavors from what the chicken has been eating, like garlic or some herbs. I doubt it would be as strong or noticable as fresh cows milk after she tried wild onions or garlic. Now that is flavor!

Speaking of ignorance.

In the olden days, my mother was a waitress and she told me that she overheard this while working at a restaurant in St. Louis many years ago.

One of her co-workers was taking an order from a customer. The customer asked what the specials were and the waitress rattled off what was available. One of the items was a tongue sandwich.

Well the customer got all huffy and said, “Oh my god, I could never eat anything that came out of and animals mouth. I will just have some scrambled eggs please.”
