Taste of the Wild-update concern on pg. 2

My concern with TOTW would be..
My dogs have never had fish.(besides little bites here and there from our plates..).. and is the TOTW JUST fish? I dont think dogs just eat fish in the wild..?? How can that be healthy for them?
I could get the bison one..but they've never had bison either..

What ELSE in is the TOTW feed?

Thats my problem..
I feed purina one large breed.. and my male has itchy ears and feet..
I'm looking for better quality feed but not as expensive as TOTW..
I feed my male 10 cups a day.. and my female 6 cups a day of purina one..
(split into 2 feedings..wet down with water to expand it before it hits their belly)
I'm thinking the chicken soup one will be better for them... or maybe i;ll try the TOTW..
I CANT make up my mind!!!!!!

You should give TOTW a try. My dog eats much, much less of it than she did her previous food so it actually works out cheaper for me than the IAMS did. She weighs 80 pounds and very rarely eats more than 3 cups a day (most of the time more like 2+ cups) of the TOTW.

My 80lb akita eats maybe 1 cup of totw a day. She does get other things but even when she was on kibble only she hardly ate more than a cup of high quality kibble. There also isn't a ton of dog poop around my yard. The more junk and filler you put in the more has to come out. A higher protein diet with less grains also results in the dog poop being very soft and dissolving quickly.

A natural diet for a dog would probably be more small game than anything but you won't find too much rabbit, mouse, and duck based food.

Dogs generally do well on mostly fish unlike cats who can have some issues with it and they do great on bison. Even dogs with sensitivities to beef can often eat bison. Mine can't handle lamb at all.

THats what my female weighs..80-90 lbs..
And i feed her 6 cups a day now..
So, if i could go down on the amount of feed..it may all even out! Thanks for the info!
May i will try TOTW.. What kind would you suggest?
I am worried about my male though..hes larger..(170+). wont he need large breed food??

I wouldn't worry about your male...as someone else already said a good quality food is good no matter the dog's size or age that it's being fed to.

I started Gypsy out on the High Prairie, but she put on too much weight with that so I switched her to the Pacific Salmon.

I like the high prairie ingredients... cause it has bison and lamb and chicken meal and venison... even some ocean fish meal...
Sounds like it has a bit of everything!
I think i'm going to try them on it this week..
How much do i feed them of this feed though? And how slow should i switch this food over??
Male is 170+.. (probably not more than 180 #... he seems a little thin to me right now so could probably use a few extra cups a day....)
And my female is 80-90lbs... (shes getting a wee bit chunky.. but not bad.. i'd like to keep her at her weight now ..)

The website says about 4 cups for the 80-90 lb dog and 6 cups for the 180 lb. dog. for the High Prairie. But I have never had to feed as much as is recommended to keep my dogs at a good weight. As for switching I would do it slowly to see how it affects the digestive system. Say 1/4 TOTW to 3/4 of the old food and keep putting more TOTW in each day until it is the only food being fed. Some dogs are really sensitive and any change can result in an upset intestinal tract. Others, like mine, can switch all at once with no issues.
